Description

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. Any significant playing defects will be detailed in the description below. I know how disappointing it is to receive a record graded as excellent, only to find that listening pleasure is spoiled by endless pops, loud clicks and intrusive background crackle. I guarantee that you will not buy such a record from me!!

The winning bidder can expect to receive a clean record, carefully packaged, with the vinyl removed from the inner and outer sleeves to prevent splits in transit.

Here for auction is a lovely example of the first album by THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE titled “ARE YOU EXPERIENCED”, Catalogue Number 612 001. This is an *ORIGINAL 1967 UK 1st PRESSING* on the TRACK RECORD LABEL, with THE EARLIEST DOUBLE RIDGED TRACK LABELS and 1st ISSUE E. J. DAY SLEEVE which has the “Patent Pending” text on the back cover.

The full matrix numbers and stampers are:

Side A - 612001  A?1      1      3      0?  1

Side B - 612001  B#?1  1       1     1     1  2

The front-laminated single sleeve, printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London, is in VERY GOOD+ CONDITION (strictly graded). The front laminated cover is unmarked, with just a few light laminate creases, mostly near the edges. The vibrant colours have not faded, and there are only a few small areas of laminate lifting along the top edge. The back cover is also unmarked with just a few light creases near the edges and a few dirty marks near the opening edge. The top edge is near perfect. The bottom edge is in good shape with just a few light scuffs. The opening edges are undamaged with just a little feathering and a couple of tiny knocks from careless record entry. The corners are fairly square with just light rubbing at the tips. The slim spine shows some rubbing in places but most of the text is legible. There are no unwanted rips, stickers or writing. Overall a very presentable example of this fragile 1st issue sleeve. Tough to find one much better!!

This quality Track record is very solidly pressed and sits flat and true on the turntable. It has a thick square-cut rim edge. It retains a deep mirror-like shine. There are just very light surface marks evident (mostly from taking the record in and out of the inner sleeves), in addition to one noticeable stylus mark across part of the last 2 tracks of Side 1. These marks are purely superficial and do not cause any audio problems. Visually, I would grade Side 1 as VG(+) and Side 2 as close to EX. The BEAUTIFUL MATT BLACK TRACK LABELS are unmarked apart from a few spindle traces evident near the centres. There is still some plastic flashing in the spindle hole. I am confident that the record has not been played very many times.

PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:

This is a particularly raw and vibrant mono recording which sounds sensational played at loud volume. The record plays superbly with all frequencies crystal clear. There is barely any discernable deterioration in the sound quality. Several of the tracks have quiet introductions and passages which can easily be ruined by excessive crackle and surface sound. Not on this example – all play beautifully with barely any unwanted noise at all. A significantly better playing copy may be very difficult to find!!

Complete with the correct white poly-lined inner sleeve, with square-cut opening edges, which is in very good condition. “British Patent No…” and MADE IN ENGLAND  20/059” are printed in blue text at the bottom. There are no splits or tears, just some creasing and age discoloration.

FIRST PRESS EXAMPLES WITH A SLEEVE OF THIS QUALITY AND NEAR PERFECT PLAYBACK ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND - DON’T MISS THIS ONE!!!
