ULTRA RARE
This is the earliest possible 'Advanced' 1st UK pressing on the mega rare orange/yellow swirl style MCA Label & star-shaped fold-out cover
MKPS 2011/2 7-214-2/7-215/7-216-2/7-217 Matrix Numbers 1O/1G/1G/?? '1' stampers!!! For some reason, none of these advanced pressings had any stampers on Side 4 The 'Jesus Christ Superstar' Double LP, featuring Ian Gillan, was released in the UK with several different cover types and with several different MCA labels. This advanced pressing is the earliest and rarest due to its unique 'star-shaped' fold-out cover and its late-1960s style MCA labels with the orange/yellow swirl design. The cover is made by E J Day whereas later pressed UK covers were invariably made by Robert Stace. The album's official release date was 16th October 1970 by which time MCA had replaced its orange/yellow swirl labels with the new red/pink & black/blue 'bow-tie' or 'dog-bone' style label design. This 'advanced' pressing accounts for the old style MCA labels. Copies of the fold-out star cover very rarely come-up for sale but those which do, almost always have the later 'bow-tie' labels, because only a few 'advanced' copies were made with the old-style labels. In addition, the original booklet that came with these 'advanced' pressings were different from the 'bow-tie' label pressings. It is printed on shiny paper, has rounded corners and was made by E J Day rather than the Moore & Mathes pressed booklets. Cover: E J Day unlaminated 'advanced' 1st UK pressing 'star-shaped' cover. These star-shaped covers are very fragile but this one has been in storage for 45+ years and is looking great as a result. No writings or doodles. Some minor edge/seam storage wear only. Rates as Excellent+ - see photos. Booklet: Near Mint. E J Day manufactured (printed on the inside of the first page) glossy booklet with rounded edges. Has been stored within the cover since new. Stunning. Inner sleeves: Decca poly-lined inner sleeves (manufactured in 1968) in Excellent condition. Vinyl: Thick heavy duty Decca pressed vinyl. These records have never been played and are therefore assumed to be in Mint condition. They have been stored in the original polythene sleeves since new. Indeed, Side 1 has acquired the imprint of the polythene on the disk - this happens when a record has been stored for so long - but it is assumed that this will have no impact on the record. Labels: Ultra Rare - orange/yellow swirl labels with 'Made in England' text around the label perimeter. Mint condition. Try finding another with these older MCA 1960s style labels in this condition.Side one
