Frustration Hooded Eagle I See The Light Murderer's Lament When The Wolf Sits Midnight Steamer Primitive Man Beyond The Grave She Came Like A Bat From Hell An astonishing early metal holy grail, the only thing I've ever heard that could be ranked in the same tier as Sir Lord Baltimore (the ultimate), Granicus, Uriah Heep and (at least some) Budgie. (Sabbath is in its own untouchable tier/genre I guess.) Perfect vocals and songwriting to go with epic crushing riffs that melt my brain into a puddle of pure metal ecstasy. I have heard a fair number of obscure early metal albums, but this blows almost everything else out of the water. I've only listened to this album like 3 times so far and it already feels like an old friend! That's a sure sign of great songwriting. Besides the riffing and wailing, the atmospheric/brooding/jazzy passages are also fantastic on this album (sorta post-hardcore tension-building feeling). Obviously the biggest influence was Sabbath, although the sound doesn't come out very similar. The album was produced by Ian Gillan from Deep Purple, curiously enough.
