Description
J.D. ROBB : Electronic Music From Razor Blades to Moog LP (Folkways/Asch [USA] FS 3438/AHS-3438) 1970.
Record is excellent with minimal light sleeve scuffs only. Cover is excellent with light ring wear and a few small tears on the spine.
With insert (excellent).
Nice original copy (in second cover) of the first LP by American electronic/avant garde composer/scholar John Donald Robb, released in 1970 on Asch/Folkways. As the title suggests, this is more or less an electronic music history lesson, with various examples of techniques/sounds/instruments, using Robb's own compositions.
"Asch Records" was the original (circa 1945) name of the label that later became Folkways (named for founder Moses Asch); for some reason the original label name was revived for a few miscellaneous releases circa 1969/1970, including this one. This LP originally had Asch as the label name and the "AHS" catalog number on the labels, insert, and cover, with no mention of Folkways. Later when they re-printed the cover slicks (not sure when, probably not long after), they changed the credited label name to Folkways and changed the catalog prefix on the slick. All copies we've seen (not many) have had the Asch label, in either an Asch cover or a Folkways cover, though it's quite possible it was later re-pressed with Folkways labels also. This copy has the Asch label and the Folkways cover.
See the Smithsonian/Folkways website for sound samples.
