Aptly titled “Sorcerers” the album portrays the duo of magicians, not yet dominated by the satanic feel of their seminal “Rats and Mice…”, but reflecting, often contemplatively, as a pair of wise if sometimes inconvenient and weird men, over diverse facts of life.

This is a large collection of short sung songs (that grow bigger and more sophisticated on the second part) – the exception being a long instrumental as the “Yorkshire Indians” stare at Nature charms and finally mutter the song title at the tail end of the tune -, sometimes little more than mere sketches, yet several with a moving depth if not many really ear-catching refrains or hooks, like troubadours whose lyrics carry a message as important as the music.

Basically a Folk album, where the eloquent and expressive singing, the unorthodox acoustic guitar strumming style and the flute and clarinet that normally dance between the vocal lines, are the main characteristics, it’s also filled with aural appendixes and structural diversions stemming from progressive and psychedelic currents (now and then prefiguring “Mice and Rats..”), nurtured by diverse percussions (bongos, table, tuned percussions, bells and cymbals), occasional use of Celeste, organ, oboe, sax or bass, Arabian tinged vocalizations or the odd vocal harmony, periodical use of sound effects(storms or winds), and above all a deep skepticism against the traditional verse, verse, refrain template and the firm believe rules exist to be broken.
