JACKIE MCLEAN "New Soil" Blue Note 4013, "P", "RVG," DG, Mono Vinyl
This is the first-pressing 1959, "RVG" stamped, Deep-Groove, Laminated Cover, "P"-pressing of JACKIE MCLEAN's "New Soil" on the Blue Note Records 47 West 63rd NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 4013. (No "R" under "Note" on label) Musicians include Jackie McLean, Donald Byrd, Walter Davis Jr., Paul Chambers, and Pete LaRoca.
VINYL has consistent low-level surface noise on both sides; and occasional pops or ticks, but all well beneath the music. Instruments are super dynamic and clear; drums and cymbals precise and defined; horns full of tone and power; bass deep and low, extended. No skips, warps or locked grooves. Nice gloss on both sides. Vinyl surface shows hairline marks, perhaps only four feelable scratches. Instruments are clear and dynamic. The Deep-Grooved "47 West 63rd NYC labels" are clean, but show wear, and spindle marks.
The LAMINATED COVER shows some wear, small water damage mark upper right corner. See photos. Corners worn, see photos. Lower spine shows 2" split. Top seam 2" split. Tiny lower left corner split, bottom seam otherwise perfect. "BLUE NOTE RECORDS, INC. 47 West 63rd New York 23" back jacket shows some aging, lower right corner seam exposed. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Elac B6 standmount speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
