Audio-Visualscapes is an album by Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition, featuring Greg Osby, Gary Thomas, Mick Goodrick, and Lonnie Plaxico, recorded in 1988 and released on the MCA/Impulse! label.
The New York Times called the album "raw and tumultuous, hardly the work of someone settling into an easy middle age of refinement." The Boston Globeand The San Diego Union-Tribune considered it one of the best jazz albums of 1988.
The AllMusic review by Scott Yanow states: "This double-LP from Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition contains music that mixes together advanced hard bop, fusion, M-Base funk and avant-garde jazz... The results are sometimes unsettling but rarely dull, well worth several listens."
With the recent passing of Mick Goodrick, I'm reminded that one of my very favorite guitar solos (from any guitar player) is Goodrick's solo on PM's AM. The entire album is amazing, as well, and DeJohnette is always great, and the interplay is phenomenal but I particularly love the sound of Goodrick on this album. I go back to this album a lot
Jack DeJohnette (born August 9, 1942) is an American jazz drummer, pianist, and composer.
Known for his extensive work as leader and sideman for musicians including Charles Lloyd, Freddie Hubbard, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, John Abercrombie, Alice Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock and John Scofield, DeJohnette was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2007. He has won two Grammy Awards and been nominated for five others
