Idle Few – ‘People That’s Why’ / ‘Land Of Dreams’ – Blue Book 1 (US)

No introduction necessary, this is one beautiful slice of Blue Eyed Northern Soul, on a tiny subsidiary of Juggy Murray’s Sue label, released in 1969. Penned by Billy Vera, of ‘Storybook Children’ fame (with Judy Clay), the song was also recorded by P.J. Proby – his version was released in 1966. The Idle Few were a five-piece from Arlington, Indiana. This is an original styrene issue copy that plays beautifully, but it does have a problem. Read on!Condition: Although the record plays beautifully in VG+ condition (or perhaps a notch better), there is a crack in the run-out grooves. The crack doesn’t affect the playing of the tune at all, the clicks appear only as the music has almost faded away completely, and it’s hardly visible – please see the close-up scan (the crack is at 1 o’clock, about 1 centimetre or 0.4 inches to the left of the “K” in “Blue Book”) – but it is there, and may or may not lessen the life span of the record (depending on how careful future players are). Also, please note that the labels are reversed.
I’m starting this very low, so you can decide for yourself what the disc may be worth. A good chance to obtain an expensive record at a good price!
To repeat: the record has a crack but only in the run-out grooves. Please listen to the full length clip of ‘People That’s Why’ and the clip of the last 20 seconds of ‘Land Of Dreams’ and you will hear exactly what it sounds like. Please note also that the labels are reversed.
Condition: Please read above description carefully (please listen to the clips). Basically clean labels (reversed) but with significant ring wear (please see scans). I’ve tried to explain the condition as well as I can, but will be happy to answer further questions.
