Solar Plexus, ottimo album interamente permeato di un jazz rock/fusion con sporadici sperimentalismi ("Elements I & II"), è il terzo (capo)lavoro della britannica formazione Nucleus.
Nucleus, ensemble di eccellenti musicisti e ricettacolo di tecnica & perizia strumentale, debutta nel 1970 con "Elastic Rock" paradigmatico nonchè strabiliante album jazz rock che può essere tranquillamente paragonato ai Soft Machine "seconda maniera" (post "Third", altro sontuoso album del 1970).
Solar Plexus, pur non toccando i vertici dei primi due lavori, offre all'ascoltatore una caleidoscopica miscela di suoni, un sound vigoroso, compatto, senza sbavature, "tronfio" (in senso positivo) di una raffinatissima ed elegante "tecnica" comune negli ambienti di "Canterbury".
L'album si apre con "Elements I & II", in cui l'uso del synth, pregno di "umori cosmici", è alquanto fuorviante e soprattutto distante anni luce dal sound caldo e avvolgente tipico del gruppo.
Questo peculiare inizio ci dimostra come la band non sia avulsa da sperimentalismi e dalla ricerca di nuovi suoni.
Solar Plexus, an excellent album entirely imbued with a jazz rock / fusion with sporadic experimentalism ("Elements I & II"), is the third (chief) work of the British formation Nucleus. Nucleus, an ensemble of excellent musicians and a receptacle of technique and instrumental expertise, debuted in 1970 with paradigmatic "Elastic Rock" as well as an astonishing jazz rock album that can easily be compared to Soft Machine "second way" (post "Third", another sumptuous album by 1970). Solar Plexus, while not touching the vertices of the first two works, offers the listener a kaleidoscopic mixture of sounds, a vigorous sound, compact, without smudging, "pompous" (in a positive sense) of a very refined and elegant "technique" common in the environments of "Canterbury". The album opens with "Elements I & II", in which the use of the synth, full of "cosmic moods", is somewhat misleading and above all light years away from the warm and enveloping sound typical of the group. This peculiar beginning shows us how the band is not detached from experimentalism and the search for new sounds.
