PROVENANCE: Back in September 1986 I was an extra during the filming of a concert scene for Bob Dylan's Hearts of Fire film in which he played a washed up rock star. Also in the film was (among others) Ian Dury, playing a character called Bones. The filming took place at Bristol Colston Hall. The next day I used my £15 fee to buy some records at a record fair in Bristol. Later, as I approached the front entrance of the Colston Hall I noticed Ian Dury leaning against a pillar. I approached him, said I had been an extra in the film and asked him to sign the brown paper bag which my LPs were in, which he did. I cut out Ian Dury's signature (along with the test "John" I had signed to ensure the pen worked) and tucked it away in the LP where it has remained until now. The film Hearts of Fire was released in 1987 and was a pretty massive flop. JH
