You are bidding on a Vinyl LP from our favorite blues giant, Howlin’ Wolf, “Moanin’ In The Moonlight.” This 1986 Re-Issue contains some of his greatest recordings from Chess Records in Chicago, from 1951-1959. (Ch 9195).
The compilation LP was originally released in 1984 on the Chess Label, (at the time owned by MCA), and contains classic recordings from the 1950’s. We purchased this item in the 1980’s, played it (and enjoyed it!), and it has been sitting in our home (vertically) for the last few decades.
The LP is in Near Mint condition, looking very clean. We don’t think it has ever been played. The LP cover is also Near Mint, with only slight wear showing on some of the corners. (See Photos).

"Moaning' in the Moonlight" is the debut LP by Howlin' Wolf, released in 1959 and made up of various singles he had recorded and released over the course of the 1950s. These were almost indisputably some of his finest performances. In particular, the first three tracks are very strong. All songs on the album feature vocals and harmonica from the Wolf. His harmonica playing is not among the best in the blues but is still quite competent. It is his vocals, however, that are especially engrossing. In addition, he performs with other fine blues musicians of the day including Willie Dixon and Hubert Sumlin, the former of whom also penned one of the songs, "Evil," which is among the best that the listener hears. It finally should be noted that Howlin' Wolf had a much more modern Chicago blues sound than his rival Muddy Waters did in the fifties”.
