Description

This product is a 78 RPM Columbia Masterworks box set of Handel's "The Messiah," featuring volumes 1 and 2 on 19 total shellac records (labels up to 10 pictured). Released in 1947, this classical music collection comes in a cardboard sleeve and is in very good condition. Conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, this post-war release was one of the definitive oratorio box sets just before 33 1/3 rpm vinyl records were introduced.
Includes two booklets related to Handel, the musicians behind the recordings, and the records themselves, as well as two pamphlets outlining two performances by the St. Louis Park (MN) High School's Glee Club dated 12/16/47 and 12/20/49.
