Description
PLEASE NOTE WHAT REFURBISHED MEANS FOR THIS TURNTABLE, AS FOLLOWS:-
(i) Loricraft stripped, cleaned and reassembled the turntable, and fitted new springs and re-plated levers in 2003. They did NOT repaint it.
(ii) Soon afterwards, I started refurbishing 301s and 401s myself. I am a qualified engineer, more interested in accuracy than cosmetics. I gave special attention to ALIGNING the motor spindle, the idler wheel and the main bearing so that these components were properly aligned - either on the same plane or at right angles. This involves some filing and some shimming. For this reason, there is a shim between the chassis and one of the idler chassis mounting posts. (Most 301s need adjusting in this way to run as smoothly as possible in my opinion. Also included are type-written 301 refurbishment instructions given to me by my friends at Loricraft in about 2005).
(iii) The fascia plates are speckled because of their age, as you can see in photographs 2, 3, 4 & 5.
(iv) The turntable has been repainted with the correct paint BUT IT DOES NOT LOOK QUITE LIKE OTHER HAMMERTONES. Please look carefully at the photos and you will see that the 'hammertone" texture is more pronounced and more variable than standard. However, the photographs make it look pitted whereas it is actually very smooth.
This has been the best 301 I have ever owned. For example, the idler wheel spins more freely than on any other 301 or 401 that has passed through my hands and it runs at 33RPM with the speed adjuster dead centre. I shall be sorry to see it go.
