I CAN'T THINK OF A SINGLE POPULAR TITLE THAT WENT OVER EVEN 36 MINUTES IN LENGTH PER SIDE, LET ALONE 41 MINUTE  (MOST ROCK LPS CLOCK IN AT AROUND 36-37 MINUTES BETWEEN BOTH SIDES). I ACTUALLY DIDN'T THINK IT WAS TECHNICALLY POSSIBLE UNTIL I SPOTTED THE TIMINGS ON THIS DOUBLE LP. THUS FAR. THE LONGEST KNOWN ROCK LP ALBUM (TODD RUNDGREN'S 1976 'INITIATION') HAS THE LONGER OF THE TWO SIDES CLOCKING IN AT 36 MINUTES). JUST TO GIVE YOU A SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE: THE ENTIRE ELVIS PRESLEY'S 'KING CREOLE' SOUNDTRACK LP IS ONLY 22:03 LONG, SO THIS HUMBLE PIE SIDE IS NEARLY TWICE AS LONG AS THE ENTIRE ELVIS PRESLEY ALBUM.

The storming Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore is a monumental live recording from the classic Humble Pie line-up. The spirited and inspired concert recording from late May of 1971, puts the spotlight squarely on mighty-mite front man Steve Marriott, while guitarist Peter Frampton steps in with fierce fretboard work, and the tag-team of bassist Greg Ridley and drummer Jerry Shirley tightly hold down the rhythm. Behind the spartan black 'n' white sleeve lurks a blazing set of sweat-soaked live tracks that bleed raw blooze-rock.

Recorded over the course of two nights at Bill Graham's legendary venue in the heart of New York City, you can feel the concert heat as you listen to the epic live recording from start to close. The Pie lay it down from the stage with no-frills, as the boys kick out each extended track from this smokin' concert recording.

Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore is a top of the line live effort, from a vastly under-rated seventies group. Each cut cooks, which includes the hot groove of "I Don't Need No Doctor", the deep-fried, bluesy "Four Day Creep", a smoldering cover of "Hallelujah, I Love Her So", the raging "Stone Cold Fever", and a killer version of "Rolling Stone". Mid-disc, "Rolling Stone" followed by "I Walk on Gilded Splinters" consume forty-molten-minutes. Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore isn't for those with short attention deficit syndrome.

The entire Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore recording is essential listening. It's red hot and blues-based... belted-out with passion, soul and vigor. Marriott's vocals tell the story. Truly a legendary concert recording from an era that produced numerous smokin' live LP's. It doesn't get much better than Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore.

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

·                          THE RECORDS

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The records are apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)          White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 150:1.

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4  (front side) and 3 (back side); Inside gatefold has some light ring wear as well

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams  (nothing significant)

-       Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)

-       Visible shelf wear noted on the seams

-       Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
