For fans of Captain Beefheart, Steppenwolf, early Jimi James, and Howlin Wolf. This is the album Tom Waits wanted Heartattack and Vine to sound like. It would not sound the same without Howlin Wolf telling his side of things. He makes this record a legendary affair.

In 1968 Howlin Wolf was forced – seemingly at gunpoint -  to record a heavy, electric, psychedelic albums (looks like Marshall Chess, who did not have his father's wisdom to let the old blues master do his job as he saw fit - was the main perpetrator of  this larceny). On this one, Howlin Wolf sounds as if possessed by Voodoo, and apparently he did not like these sides one bit (hence the hilarious title). Still, the album has its redeeming properties. The album matured, in our view, quite gracefully and has been sampled over the past few years quite extensively, which is a rather weird - and much belated - form of recognition. The Wolf covers here his greatest tunes, in a setting and with arrangements so bizarre that you may not be able to recognize some of them. (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)         The record is  apparently  pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)         The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP;  HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR  VG++

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has a small cutout hole punched IN THE LABEL AREA. This affects the record, which also has a small cutout hole in the label area.

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the top seam   (nothing significant)
