As the Golden Gate Orchestra, The California Ramblers go before the microphone at Edison on 18.Mar. 1929 to record a hot "A Precious Little Thing Called Love" coupled with a rather mundane (by comparison) "Dream Train". Ed Kirkeby sings the vocals, and hot trombone passages, as well as cornet and violin are in evidence on the "Precious Little Thing" side (although Rust lists no Dorseys, Nichols, or Venuti this session). This copy is a visual V+ mainly due to a few scratches some of which "tick" (Esp. on the "Dream Train" side). These scratches look bad, but hardly sound at all. "Dream Train" side plays E to E+ with occasional ticks and pops, but most were not audible when tested on my Diamond Disc player with the lid closed. The "Precious Little Thing" side plays E+ or better. There are several small edge flakes both sides that do not affect play. A VERY respectable copy of a toughie!
