HORACE PARLAN QUINTET "Speakin' My Piece" Blue Note 4043, "P", "RVG," DG, Mono Vinyl
This is the first-pressing 1960, "RVG" stamped, Deep-Groove, Laminated Cover, "P"-pressing of HORACE PARLAN QUINTET's "Speakin' My Piece" on the Blue Note Records 47 West 63rd NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 4043. (R" under "Note" on label) Musicians include Horace Parlan, Tommy Turrentine, Stanley Turrentine, George Tucker, Al Harewood.
VINYL has consistent low to medium level surface noise on both sides; and occasional pops and ticks; groove-wear/distortion present on some tracks. No skips. No warps. No locked grooves. Vinyl surface shows many hairline marks; one pronounced one-inch scratch Side 1, #1. Instruments are largely clear and dynamic. The Deep-Grooved "47 West 63rd NYC labels" are clean, but show spindle marks under direct light.
The LAMINATED COVER is in nice shape, shows some wear around edges. See photos. Corners worn. Spine: 1/2" top and middle split, 1" lower split. Top seam: tiny split at jacket opening. Lower seam: no split, but wear. See photos. "BLUE NOTE RECORDS, INC. 47 West 61st New York 23" back jacket shows aging, discoloration, "LEO" in marker, name and address in ink upper left corner. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
