Description
HOLLIES Butterfly (Parlophone PMC 7039) Original MONO 1st Press MINT-
Up for sale is an original UK MONO very first pressing of "Butterfly" by the Hollies, issued on Parlophone Records (November 1967). Under the "spiritual guidance" of Graham Nash, "Butterfly" was the band`s second (and final) effort at integrating the psychedelic experience into a pop universe.
However, when the flower power fad began to wither away, the Hollies reverted to the original, more successful pure pop format: Surely a wise decision seen from a commercial perspective, this nevertheless resulted in driving Graham Nash out of the band...and towards more progressive pastures in "Crosby, Stills & Nash". The rest, as they say, is history.
Grading:
VG++ COVER. Being an original first pressing sleeve, this comes with the laminated flipback cover. The bottom flipback (which, incidentally, has a small nick) reads "Printed and made by Garrod and Lofthouse" and is date-stamped "6711": This denotes the specific, first issue release date!
Apart from very light general fading of the white area on the rear, the sleeve retains all its original bright vibrant colour. It is lovely and clean, with broad and perfectly readable spine. For details, please see photos.
Also included is the original, custom-printed EMI inner sleeve, advertising other then-current EMI album releases.
VG+(+) RECORD with light general hairlining from sleeve removal. Very mild sporadic background crackle in between some tracks and in a few quieter passages. The record has a tiny scratch (1 cm long, at the beginning of "Step Inside") that causes two very light "ticks". Otherwise, no clicks or pops whatsoever.
Original MONO first pressing, featuring black-and-yellow Parlophone labels with "Gramophone Co. Ltd." rim and "Sold in the UK..." credits. The labels are in very good condition, clean and retaining their original vibrant yellow, silver and black colours. The spindle holes show a bit of wear, especially on side one.
The matrix numbers in the run-out grooves read "XEX 659-1" and "XEX 660-1", respectively. Stamper codes are "1" on both sides, thereby identifying this as a genuine UK first pressing.
PLEASE NOTE: SHIPPING WILL BE $13 TO USA AND REST OF THE WORLD / $9 TO EUROPE.
eBay`s maximum mailing cost for the US is predetermined at $4. Obviously, the new pricing system does not foresee foreign sellers listing in the US. However, we cannot possibly ship a record to the US from Europe for this price. Please bid only if you agree with the mailing costs as outlined above.
