HERCULES & LOVE AFFAIR

Someone Else Is Calling

Stratasonic US

12" Cat: STSC 008
Rel: 22 Dec 25
Disco/Nu Disco/Re-Edits Side 1 - Track 1. Someone Else Is Calling Side 1 - Track 2. Crossed Lines Side 2 - Track 1. Body & Soul Side 2 - Track 2. That's Not How To Love

Los Angeles label Stratasonic drops its highest profile release to date - a first fresh EP in almost six years from Andy Butler's popular Hercules & Love Affair project. The former DFA Records artist is in prime form from the word go, with trippy vocal number 'Someone Else Is Calling' delivering an enticing blend of sassy vocals, high register acid lines, clonking melodic motifs and dusty acid house drums. You can hear the influence of bleep techno (a long-held inspiration for Butler) on both 'Crossed Lines' and the deliciously acidic 'Body & Soul', while 'That's Not How To Love' is a thrillingly odd and energetic chunk of off-kilter house jack with added delay-laden percussion hits and TB-303 abuse aplenty. A genuinely fantastic return from one of dance music's most distinctive producers.
