This is the album Greg Shaw from Bomp Magazine proclaimed to be "the best live punk album ever".

Hep Stars started out in 1963 with Hasse Östlund on organ (his son is the guitarist in The Nomads). He quit after their first single and was replaced by Benny Andersson, later of ABBA. They made a whole batch of decent singles and a couple of good albums.

On Stage, however, stands out as a prime example of live, mid 60's, pre psychedelic rock and is a contender to ANY live album from the era by ANY band. Hep Stars are rocking out like there is no tomorrow. Sometimes to extremes as in Surfin' Bird (comped on the first Pebbles Sweden album), which puts both the Ramones and even The Cramps versions to shame. Everything is 100% right, from the tough versions of Cadillac and What'd I Say to the mayhem of Surfin' Bird, Farmer John and Whole Lotta Shaking Going On to the great cover. There are a couple of good renditions of their own songs inbetween too. A thousand more times energetic than their singles.

A true classic 60's rock album..

This is the original heavier vinyl release from 1965 with red/blue Olga labels, not the Efel or Rainbow reissues.
