Henri Roger recorded just one album for the Pôle label, his first album ‘Images...’ which was confusingly released with ‘Pôle’ as the most prominent name on the front cover, so that it looks like it’s another album by Pôle, the group (see reviews for ‘Kotrill’ and ‘Inside the Dream’). Roger played everything on the album – Yamaha YC45D organ, Mini Korg Elka Rhapsody synth, and guitar. Fairly unique and experimental, and tripped-out in a non-threatening way LP.

The meditative ‘Images...’ (21:45) takes up all of side 1, and features electric organ with loads of unusual treatments and effects. It sounds pretty unique, partly due to the organ mostly being played like a synthesiser and sequencer, and the odd hovering sound treatments that turn it all into a bit of a sedate, mysteriously sparkling cosmic analog mind carnival that’s a sheer delight. ‘Au Dela du Langage’ (8:53) opening side 2 is all synth, and sounds kinda somewhere between something at times dark but less tripped-out from the ‘Besombes-Rizet’ album (see separate review) and parts of the 2nd White Noise album (complete with chintzy sound). Half way through it fades out and after a moment of silence re-enters completely different, making it all actually two different tracks under the same name. ‘Ataraxie’ (6:30) is a mellow, melancholic guitar interlude that segues neatly in from the previous track and out again into the next. It’s all instrumental and pretty without being prissy. ‘Asyle Cosmique’ (10:34) used all of the above instrumentation in a richly textured cosmic stew, kind of ambient but mildly dark, creepy and experimental, like floating through the cobwebs of your mind, man, although guitar doesn’t come into it until near the end, and when it does things get more upbeat and change tack completely, sounding almost like an early precursor to Stereolab. Only the French (or maybe the Italians) could make albums like this little gem.

The album was reissued on Tapioca a few years later, with side 1 (and to a much lesser extent side 2) dodgily pressed so that a lot of the louder high frequencies are crackly and distorted, even on very clean near-mint copies, this is your chance to own an original 1975 Pôle press LP in CLOSE TO MINT condition !


MY GRADING SYSTEM / MON SYSTÈME DE GRADATION :

I can not listen to all the records I'm selling, this gradation is only based on visual judgement. I have rather tendency deliberately to exaggerate this gradation, however, in case of doubt, do not hesitate to ask your questions before bidding.
Je ne peux écouter tous les disques que je vends, cette gradation n'est donc fondée que sur un jugement visuel. J'ai plutôt tendance à volontairement exagéré cette notation, cependant n'hésitez pas à poser vos questions avant d'enchérir en cas de doute.

M (MINT) : Scéllé, jamais joué, neuf dans son emballage d'origine.
Sealed, never opened or played, new in original package.

NM (NEAR MINT) : Copie quasi parfaite, joué très rarement. Au pire, une ou deux traces de surface insignifiantes. C'est le qualificatif le plus haut donné pour un disque non scellé.
Near perfect copy, played only a few times. At worst it may have one or two insignificant flaws. This is the highest grade I give for a non-sealed (used) record.

EX (EXCELLENT) : Copie très propre, quelques marques de surfaces (cheveux) insignifiantes. La pochette a des défauts très mineurs.
Clean copy, slight surface marks/hairlines, cover has minor defaults.

VG++ (VERY GOOD++) : Des marques de surface plus importantes, quelques défauts mineurs ou traces d'usage de la pochette.Non qualifié d'EX à cause de défauts un peu plus nombreux.
More surface marks, minor flaws, or cover wear, minor edge wear (cover). Nothing serious but is not graded EX because of few minor defaults

VG+ (VERY GOOD +) : A été joué souvent, traces d'usage et multiples micros rayures générant un bruit de fond au départ ou entre deux titres, mais le disque ne saute pas à la lecture. La pochette présente des traces d'usage ou de stockage importantes (coins ou tranche usés, noms, date, dédicace, etc...).
Played a lot, will show signs of handling, has numerous slight surface marks (hairlines) but no jumps or sticks. Cover wear (light ring wear, heavier corner or edge wear on cover)

VG (VERY GOOD) : Disque très usé, a été joué de nombreuses fois, des rayures importantes provoquant un bruit de fond permanent mais ne saute pas à la lecture. Encore écoutable (notamment à fort volume pour du gros son). La pochette est bien abîmée, déchirure, coins et tranche usés, importantes traces de stylo ou marqueur,
Used record, played a lot, has marks, few scratches, some crackling while playing and but no jumps or sticks. Still quite listenable. Cover may have heavy corner, edge wear or split seams

G (GOOD) : A été joué jusqu'à la corde (mais encore jouable sur certains titres), rayures multiples, craquements, sauts pendant la lecture. La pochette est très abîmée. Cette gradation ne concerne que les disques d'exception pouvant intéresser un collectionneur souhaitant récupérer le vinyl ou la pochette afin de compléter un exemplaire déjà présent dans sa discothèque...
Played a lot and more (but still playable), lot of scratches, crackles a lot while playing, may have jump or sticks and cover is damaged...so not so good ! This record must be very rare to be proposed in this state !!!
