Description
HAWKWIND “Silver Machine” RARE Aussie United Artists 7” British space rock psych
Hawkwind - Silver Machine 7” (orig. Australia United Artists Records STEREO UAK-4758)
Australian Release date: August 1972 (UK Release date: 9 June 1972). Recording date: 13 February 1972 (A-side).
On offer here is a VERY RARE original Australian issue of the second British 7” single by HAWKWIND. Both sides are fine examples of ‘space rock’, a musical strand that developed out of psychedelia as the range of electronic instrumentation available grew wider and more sophisticated.
HAWKWIND’s music was heavily influenced by their strong interest in Science Fiction, and made frequent use of spacey sound effects to create a dense mystical atmosphere. “Silver Machine” was recorded LIVE at the Greasy Truckers benefit gig at The Roundhouse in London (February 1972).
