Background Information

I am currently in the process of shifting a vast collection of stock which largely derives from a Record Shop which closed its doors in the early 1980s.  The stock spans a period from the early 1960s through to the early 80s with the bulk dating from the 1970s.  There are large quantities of Progressive Rock, R & B and Soul and Modern Classical.  Most of the items have sustained a single play (clearly standard practice to check for flaws upon receipt of new records back-in-the-day) however, some are obviously UNPLAYED.  The bulk of what I’m currently selling comes from this source and I’d guess it will be years before I exhaust it!

UNSOLD SHOP STOCK RARE Original U.K. 1969 Red & White Label DERAM STEREO pressing of Granny’s Intentions ‘Honest Injun’ L.P. (Catalogue Reference: DERAM/Decca Records SML 1060).  I believe this is a 1st Pressing of this (matrixes read ‘ZAL-9397.P-1W’).  The front cover is laminated with the lamination extending by approximately an inch onto the rear of the sleeve.  Unsurprisingly for a DERAM/Decca Record the bulk of the rear of the sleeve is un-laminated.  There is a cut-out in the top right-hand corner on the rear which is characteristic of Decca sleeves of this period and is designed to show the colour of the poly-lined inner (obviously blue for STEREO here).  Most people have probably never seen this L.P. let alone know who this band is?  They were an Irish band specialising in a bluesy progressive pop (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SASnLDWas3s) and I believe this represents the first appearance of Gary Moore on record who wasn’t a fully-fledged band member but is on the L.P. and is thanked in the sleeve notes.  This is essentially a new, unsold copy which might have been played once.  It is obvious that when these records were received in the shop that they play-graded them which accounts for what I believe is the only play this has ever received.  There are no marks of substance (which can be seen in normal daylight or which can be felt).  What I can see under an intense light is a relative volume of thin, ‘wispy’ hairline markings which really are characteristic of Decca pressings (it should be said that these are far more prevalent on Side Two than Side One).  I’ve never worked out whether these are a by-product of the production process (a final wipe of the surface to remove debris) or what I think is more likely is something to do with the poly-lined inner sleeves these were stored in.  Let me be clear the bulk of the playing surfaces are mark-free and this is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  Lastly, the labels are immaculate aside from one small spindle ‘drag’ visible under an intense light on Side One.  It is immediately obvious that copy has never seen heavy play!  Following on from this last point it is just as obvious that the sleeve clearly hasn’t been handled much as the lamination retains a certain ‘fresh’ appearance.  The rear is largely black print and black print tends to be lost with ease and it shows-up grubbiness and yet here we have something that has negligibly lost any print and I can’t make-out any obvious indication of handling.  I note a couple of light, superficial ‘scratches’ to the surface of the rear of the sleeve which have removed the print however, these aren’t particularly obvious (they are concentrated in the top right-hand corner on the rear.  The two most obvious flaws to the sleeve are creases which have most likely resulted from the sleeve having sustained some knocks.  There is a crease cutting across the top left-hand corner of the sleeve on the front of the sleeve (but not really evident on the rear).  It should be noted that this particular crease is just as likely to result from the characteristic ‘pinching’ of the spine as it is to result from this corner having received a light knock.  There is more substantial creasing to the bottom right-hand corner of the sleeve which is just about visible on the front but under an intense light in the corresponding position on the rear of the sleeve a number of parallel creases are evident.  It should also be noted that the rear of the sleeve extends above the front of the sleeve at the top and because this cardboard is more exposed it is slightly frayed.  The flaws are really quite minor and should be visible in the attached images.  Ultimately, this really doesn’t look like a 45 year old record.  Where the sleeve is white it remains as white as the day it was pressed and the opening edge of the sleeve (as well as the general appearance) is ‘crisp’.  It is rare that these Decca sleeves survive in this condition because they weren’t exactly heavy duty.  The sleeve is conservatively graded as being in EXCELLENT condition.

Final Remarks

This is a stunning copy of this and I cannot imagine you’d ever feel a need to upgrade this let alone get the chance to purchase a superior example.  Please check my other auctions for further Folk, Pop, R&B, Rock and Soul collectables from the same source in similarly immaculate condition.  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!

I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years now and regard myself as a conservative grader.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor (!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  I endeavour to be accurate with my grading and all items are graded under an intense light.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself. 

Returns Policy

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then please contact me within 7 days of receipt.  The buyer is expected to meet the return postage costs.

Payment Methods

Domestic buyers can pay via Cheque, PayPal or Postal Order.  Overseas buyers are always welcome and are required to pay via PayPal.  Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed.

Postage Costs

I have had to bring my service in-line with changes to Royal Mail Terms and Conditions effective of April 2013.  Previously items sent via standard post were automatically covered up to the value of £46.00 however, standard postage now only covers items up to the value of £20.00.  Items with an opening value >£20.00 will include domestic Signed For postage costs automatically.  Items with an opening value <=£20.00 and which complete with a value <=£20.00 will continue to be dispatched via standard post unless otherwise agreed (i.e. the buyer indicates a preference otherwise).  Items which have an opening value <=£20.00 but whose final value is >£20.00 will be subject to enhanced postage costs in order to cover the extra insurance which is required.  I hope this is as straightforward as I can make it?  Ultimately, please don’t make payment until you’ve received an invoice from me and if you aren’t happy with the invoice you receive then I’m always open to discussion.  Buyers should be aware that both Ebay and PayPal take a % of postage charges (i.e. they are higher than I’d ideally want them to be).
