Description

I will be listing several hundred pre-war 78's over the next month, or so.  I do not have the right needles to play these, so grading will be visual and strictly adhere to the VJM Standard (described below) unless otherwise stated.  Because my main experience is with 45's, I am not sure of some of the terms used in this system (such as "an average condition 78..." and "heavy greying in loud passages").  Therefore, I will make every attempt to describe the most pronounced imperfections on the disc.  I would always rather undergrade than overgrade.

Artist: Lieut. Felix Ferdinando & Orchestra (Vocal chorus Anthony Demish) / Gowan's Rhapsody Makers

Title:  (There's a Little White House) Where the Red, Red Roses Grow / I'll Fly to Hawaii

    Label: Gennett

    No:  3408

    Year:1926

Notes:  Because this is a less common disc, I did play it through one time on my player (without proper needle) to check for skips/repeats.  There IS at least one, possibly two, repeats on the Gowan side that MIGHT play through with a heavier stylus.  By carefully raising the needle ever so slightly (remaining in contact with the grooves), I was able to "play" past it.

    Grading (VJM Standard) -

Disc (Visual): V-, Beginning to "dull" (still some shine, but clearly a lower grade), Moderate scuffing and surface scratches, Needle digs Gowan side, 2 shellac chips along outer edge (not into grooves) on Ferdinando side.

Label: V- or lower, Significant scratches on Gowan side (see photo), noticeable scratches on Ferdinando side, Stickers in dead wax area of Ferdinando side

All records are visually graded, unless otherwise specified.

N- (78) Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.

E+ (78) Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets.

E  (78) Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.

E- (78) Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches.  LP: Some wear, scratches and scuffs, but no skipped or repeat grooves.

V+ (78) V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced. No skips or repeat grooves.

V (78) Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.

V- (78) Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.

I can only accept PayPal transactions at this time.
