Description

This is a chance to own a superb little piece of recording history. It consists of 9 78rpm records that play out Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera 'Patience' or 'Bunthorne's Bride' as stated on the inside of the beautifully decorated front cover. Also described and named are the cast and conductor along with the director Rupert D'Oyly Carte proprietor of the Rupert D'Oyly Opera Company and Savoy Hotel from 1913/48. All the records are in very good condition and I have played a couple to check the sound which again is very good and clear on both the musical and haunting vocal side but they do have the hisses and the odd crackle associated with records of this age made with basic technology. Internet sources suggest the records were produced in the early twenties possibly 1921. The superb cover design depicts a very twenties looking lady too. Each record has it's own sleeve but both the folder and the sleeves are in pretty poor condition, the spine is broken and hss come apart and some of the sleeves have come away but they are going on a hundred years old and are a must for any serious collector. The collection is extremely heavy and will cost around £10 to mail however ebay only allow sellers to charge a maximum of £7 for items like these so please bear this in mind when bidding. Good luck! I always mail my items within 5 days of receipt of payment. If you like this lot I have another from the same series-namely 'Iolanthe' so please check out my other listings.
