PROVENANCE

This album has been in my private collection for approximately 25 years. It was previously owned by a former roadie, employed by George as part of his touring band of musicians, to set up and maintain equipment during the infamous North American tour of November and December 1974.

The North American tour was known as the ‘Dark Horse’ tour, and included the iconic Indian classical musician Ravi Shankar (plus his orchestra), and fellow musicians Robben Ford, Willie Weeks, Andy Newmark, Billy Preston, Emil Richards, and Jim Keltner. It also included a horn section, comprising Tom Scott, Chuck Findley, and Jim Horn.

The Dark Horse tour was the first public performance by George since his two ‘Concerts for Bangladesh’ at Madison Square Gardens in 1971. The tour comprised 31 performances, in 27 cities across the US and Canada, the final concert being at Madison Square Gardens on December 20, 1974.

Unfortunately George had contracted laryngitis prior to the tour, and sang hoarse throughout many of the dates. The tour received mainly negative press, which, combined with the break-up of his marriage to Pattie Boyd, probably contributed to his heavy drinking, and cocaine use throughout much of the mid 1970’s.

The context of the Dark Horse tour is important, given that it finished just nine months prior to the release of Extra Texture. The signature on the LP cover must therefore reflect, to some extent, the state of mind that George carried at the time.

STORAGE

The record has been carefully stored in a SMOKE FREE, PET FREE, CENTRALLY HEATED environment. Neither the inner/outer covers have any hint of mustiness or odour whatsoever. The vinyl LP is housed in Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab archival quality sleeve.

The record has been played only a few times, on an SME turntable & SME V tonearm with Ortofon cartridge. As a result, the audio playback remains very good.
