Description
A highly sought-after Australian stock copy pressing of this mega-rare early Genesis 45 "A Winters Tale" b/w "One Eyed Hound". Australian Decca Y 8383 (1968). Although this was also issued as an "A" label promotional copy, I have seen more promotional copies of this than I have stock copies.
It is impossibly rare as a stock copy - it would have sold practically nothing. This one comes from an ABC Radio Station Record Library (The ABC government-owned radio stations tended to receive stock copies of 45's in the 1960's as oppossed to the promotional copies sent to the more numerous commercial radio stations of the time).
It was housed for a long time inside a thick cardboard cover that was protected by tar. Over time, the tar has caused brown markings (called "foxing") on both the paper sleeve, and to a lesser extent, on the record label itself. As many collectors know though, this did not affect the actual disc or record which is near-mint condition. The darkness of the Decca label helps to disguise the markings as well. The scan actually highlights the "foxing" stains more than what you can actually see on the real thing.
Grading - Both sides of the record are M- - this would be lucky to have been played maybe once or twice at the most.
This is probably the best-preserved condition of any stock copy in existence - a genuine rarity for all Genesis collectors world-wide!! Has very small "ABC" letters embedded into the right hand corner of the "A" Side label, which is the only other fault I can detect. A great condition copy!!
Comes in original Decca Australian paper sleeve, standard for all 45's from the period. It was never issued in a picture sleeve, as 99.9% of 45's in Australia were not during the 1960's. This was released exactly 40 years ago now in this country.
There are very few copies of this 45 in existence in this country, especially the stock edition which is less common than the "A" Label promotional edition.
