Description

An original 1st press on Impulse in the USA from 1970 - and tricky to track down. The label for side B mentions a full length 'ABC product' statement. This is indicative of 1st issue - they shortened it a year or two later. The odd thing is that this statement doesn't appear on side A - but it should do. This error is possibly indicative of a very early copy before they picked up on the mistake. Also, these 1st pressings don't seem to even mention the album title - truly bizarre! The vinyl comes housed in an original heavy-card gatefold cover with pasted interior and wide-spine. Also included is the generic white inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In great shape and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side - nothing heavy or nasty looking though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a varying level of playback between VERYGOOD+ and NEAREXCELLENT with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. It's not quite clean enough to hit the top grades, but it still a rather enticing and appealing rendition. Genesis audio is quite fussy so only a half decent copy is going to cut the mustard. Expect a few low-level crackles in a few isolated spots per side - nothing upfront or distracting. The deviation is in the track 'Stagnation' - we're picking up a good few ticks in the final passage of the song. Still, there's some quality audio on this pressing - evidently.
Cover (Ex-) Looks to be in great condition. The only real detractor is that there's a pin hole through the bottom right corner [right through from front to back]. Front and back look great with only a couple of minor creases. The interior looks great too with only those pin-holes I mentioned above. Edge wear is pretty minimal and the spine is fully intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card construction.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. One edge has split and been taped up.
