Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +22,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so.

  • USA - ACETATE/DEMO AUDIODISC 119A

  • INCREDIBLY WAY-BEYOND RARE . . .could not find much information at all on this relic. Remains but only one of a handful of copies ever pressed. This is a 1966 DEMO-ACETATE 7-track 10-inch by legendary  The DRIVING STUPID , known for one of the more bizarre psychedelic rock 45's from the mid-60's garage scene, "Horror Asparagus Stories" (b/w) "The Reality Of (Air) Fried Borsk," released on the ever obscure "KR" record label.

This flipped-out legend sits right along with such legends as Bedlem 4 -"Hydrogen Atom Bomb" and the crazy-cool side of underground sixties artists ~ gone slightly mad!
As freaked-out as "Horror Asparagus..." is, the flip-side of the original 45 "The Reality Of (Air) Fried Borsk" continued the
    demented brilliance ...

Thing is, The Driving Stupid recorded enough demo-acetate-only tracks to fill an album which by the way are included on this mega-rarity 7-track, a demo-only issue, finally released many years later-on by one of those reissue labels.

Up for best offer is the original 1966 AUDIODISC heavy-weight vinyl with the 1966 custom 10-inch AudioDisc sleeve  ~ see the pictures !

The excavation of an entire album's worth of then unreleased material by the Driving Stupid must have excited some die-hard 60's garage-heads, though the result proved to be somewhat too much for record labe commercial release. The entirety of the material is enjoyable garage-psych & rock with the "right-sound" making for a great collection ready artifact virtually no others own!
The exact sources of each specific track are undocumented, but they're straight-away tho this 1966 demo recorded and manufactured New Mexico.
Both sides of the "Horror Asparagus Stories"/"The Reality of (Air) Fried Borsk" single are included as well, naturally. But the reality of the Driving Stupid is that this particular brand of horror/science fiction rock isn't too clever. Imagine a bunch of teenagers who barely know their way around their inspired yet primitively played instruments fueled by a steady diet of surf rock meets garage-rock and "Mad"-magazine coupled with monster and outer-space films, then ahead of the curve, improvising songs in their suburban basement. That's what this band sounds like, and though some interpret DRIVING STUPID as a Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention type, fact is these guys weren't as ingenious, though those who get kicks out of bent-edged psychedelic creatives might enjoy these tunes about mailmen putting spiders in mailboxes and the like, backed by the most rudimentary of garage and garage rock riffs, over-excitedly sung and spoken vocals will find much to enjoy. They do get "serious" on a couple of occasions with the romantic ballad "How Do You Tell a Stranger?" and the deliberately Lovin' Spoonful-like "Happytime Springface and Flowers" - among crude garage rock self-compositions to follow

For those listeners who cheer "Horror Asparagus Stories"/"The Reality of (Air) Fried Borsk" single (which ere of their best songs), rawer versions of each of those songs are here.
Overall a mysterious 1966 group, reminding in parts of The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and similar Hollywood '66 rock'n'fun teen-zones.
Seven unidentified tracks (one is longer) never released in the sixties besides their two legends mentioned above^^

    CONDITION:
  • The cover: rated: VG++ sixties Audiodisc demo sleeves were generic custom sleeves just like the one accompanied on this 10-inch acetate/demo. In pretty strong shape for 1966 , minor bits of prior use visible easily overlooked, as main sleeve still highly collectible.

The vinyl: Rated: VG++ only a few visible minor hair-line scuffs, personally played with strong/enjoyable audio, didn't notice any obtrusive interference...  and both labels are clean A cool addition to anyone's music library!
