Though still in hi-fi territory, Guided by Voices' move from the majors to Matador sees Pollard and Co. discovering what their lo-fi classics did right and incorporating it in to more polished power-pop form.
At times it sounds like a continuation of Isolation Drills... but then,
I am one of the few that actually liked Isolation Drills - if not as a
work of art, then certainly as a collection of songs. In some ways,
later Guided By Voices is less painful to listen to because there are
no expectations of the listener to place the release within their
personal indie rock pantheon (almost said Parthenon there... that's
rather scary) - allowing for it to stand on its own merits.
Which are strong songwriting, solid hooks, and filler that serves to
make a more cohesive whole.
RECORD M- it has slight marks that doesn't affect playing)SLEEVE M
GRADINGS:
Records are graded first,then covers
S/S = still sealed
M = mint , new or unplayed condition…cover is nice and new looking with no ring wear.
M- = near perfect copy, played only a few times.
EX = only slight signs of wear; very clean, only light surface marks which will not distract
significantly from the sound…sleeve also has only slight wear, and is still in nice
collectible.
VG++ = played often with moderate surface wear and some moderate noise, still plays well…
sleeve may have medium overall wear or some ring wear.
VG+ = overall wear, but no skips of serious defects, more noisy sound during quiet passages…
sleeve is well worn, usually with considerable ring wear.
VG = plays a lot, heavy wear on record and cover…guarantee does not apply to vg- or worse
condition records.
