Hello- I'm Bill, and over the next few weeks I'll be selling off my treasured record collection, a course of action forced on me by an imminent move and enforced retirement. I've collected music all my adult life, and will be sad to see it all go . My tastes have varied over the years, as you'll see, but folk and rock have been the backbone of my collection.Over the next few weeks there will be some rarities appearing, believe me! All records will be in at least EX condition, and a lot of NM's too. I'm loathe to use NM, once it's played, it's played, but I try to stick to the RC guidelines, even if my grading is too severe! All records are inspected under a good light, and none are cleaned, only brushed. I know everyone has their own favourite cleaning methods, so why deprive you of the pleasure?(Jan 06)
Now back after a longer than expected hospitalisation and recovery, I’m fit and back on course. Many apologies to those of you who have been waiting to see what comes next. Hopefully this weekend’s offerings will satisfy!......Bill. (Apr 15 06)
This is getting like a diary! A word here about my postal charges. Some international buyers are saying that my charges are too high. I make no profit on the post.In fact since I started selling my collection, I have subsidised the international side by £66 !! I send by international signed-for, and a single record to France costs me £8.66. Further afield costs a damn sight more!!
The charges are clearly listed , so why query it after you’ve bought the item?
99% of my international buyers have been superb, but the odd whinge makes this all seem like a bit of a chore!
OK- moan over! I’m not really a miserable old git!
Into June already! This year is flying! Mind you I missed a couple of months earlier this year.
My shelves don’t seem any emptier, really! Mind you, I collected several copies of some records- you know the thing- always looking for the PERFECT copy!
Some I found, some were pretty close. I shall be sorry to see them all go, but glad to be relaxing instead of working. Mind you- doing this ebay stuff burns a lot of time- taking shakey photos, writing the descriptions, doing the listings. I suppose you younger lot could do it in half the time.
Here we are , now coming towards the end of June! I hope you lot are watching the listings as well as the footie!.
This weekend sees the last of my ‘major’ Fairport collection. A bit of the Floyd too! Some nice collectable stuff here.
Next weekend will be Michael Chapman- I collected all his stuff. Some really nice music there!
I was ALWAYS a big fan of Swarbs and Carthy, and I collected a lot of their work. That will be coming up soon too.
The best concert I ever went to (apart from Zeppelin, I suppose) was at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester in about 1967-68. Bert Jansch was to top the bill, but at the time he was somewhat unpopular with us more ‘traditional’ folkies. The place broke into applause when it was announced that Bert could not appear because he had broken his wrist.
The polite applause that followed the announcement that ‘2 blokes from the audience’ had volunteered to do a set turned into huge cheers and appreciation as Swarbs and Martin Carthy wandered down the aisle and climbed up onto the stage. A good night followed!!!!
Anyway, enough of the chat- here’s some music!
On the LIBERTY label from 1968, GROUNDHOGS ‘SCRATCHING THE SURFACE’.
The cover is very nice, with some laminate creasing to back and front, and tiny corner wear.
The inner sleeve is excellent.
The vinyl is virtually MINT. Not a mark on it. This was not my ‘player’.
The labels are likewise NM- I can see what looks like 1 tiny spindle mark!!!
Extremely collectable!!
One not to be missed!
