GRANMAX Kiss Heaven Goodbye RARE LP (1978) + 1st LP and single

The important thing for sale here is the second Granmax album, Kiss Heaven Goodbye (but I’m throwing in their first album and 45). But back to the important one - Kiss Heaven Goodbye was issued in 1978 on Panama Records and it is the more rare of the two. Definitely hard to find. I have been told only 1000 were pressed. Lets see, it is been out for 34 years… how many do you think are still around? One of these sold today (FEB 10) for $228.25 which is what prompted me to go ahead and post now. Prior to that the last one I saw sell on eBay was in August 2011 and it went for $305 plus shipping.

Here is what the website RateYourMusic has to say about this ablum: “Its mega-rarity and price tag legendary among obscure hard rock collectors, Granmax’s second and last LP Kiss heaven Goodbye is an amazing improvement upon their debut A Ninth Alive, so much so that its’ hard to believe the same Nebraskan band made it, albeit with the addition of a warbling Wildman vocalist named Nick Christopher. His unique vocal delivery is definitely love it or leave it, he sometimes sounds a little like Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra gone metal mystic, see ‘Prince of the Southern Ice’ and the record’s heaviest and best cut ‘This Life’s for Me,’ but I think he makes an already cool record even cooler since he’s got his own thing going on. Other highlights of the short 1978 release are the ass shakin’ and cowbell clunkin’ boogie metal of ‘Dream Woman,’ the shotgun wavin’ ‘Respected Man,’ and galloping opener ‘Mistress of Eternity,’ which has a sort of proto-power metal feel to it. I certainly wouldn’t have described it that way, but I agree adding Chaz Nikias (Nick) was a refreshing move. The cover is great. It was a photo shoot at Kansas City’s Uptown Theatre if I remember correctly. This band always did know how to do special effects. Looking at this cover makes me miss the sometimes dangerous George and the always fun-loving Sam.

One more thing you should know… they have released their two albums on CD now. Why am I telling you this? Of course I still think you should own the original vinyl, but I’m not so greedy as to think you need to miss this music just because I want too much money for the album. Not everybody needs to own an original, not everybody appreciates the full rich sound of vinyl. (but I really think you should buy this one anyway)

Kiss Heaven Goodbye

This album has been played, but not too much. I know this because I am the one who picked it up in Kansas City the day it arrived at Chris Fritz’s office and it has been in my possession ever since. I have two of them. It doesn’t seem to have scratches or scuffs and it plays fine on my Technics turntable. It is almost lies flat (pretty good), but again… plays fine. The cover is in very good shape, not faded or rubbed much. There are slight corner bumps. I replaced the original paper sleeve with a better plastic sleeve the day I brought it home.

Just because the second album is better, don’t discount this one completely. First of all, it is a nice white vinyl LP. The trio is a little less polished and production quality might not be great, but there are some good tunes. It’s a shame Let Me Know fades out too early. This album has been played. I’ve had it in my possession since it was new and it still lies flat and plays well. Cover shows a little rub wear and corner bumps. Paper sleeve was replaced by a plastic sleeve.
