An impressive rock throwback from Lou Gramm (frontman of Foreigner), with Released, his third album and first since 1989's Long Hard Look, arriving decades later. Written with longtime collaborator Bruce Turgon - a former bandmate from Black Sheep - the record reconnects Gramm with his Rochester roots while folding in players from across his orbit: Tony Franklin appears on 'Long Gone', Vivian Campbell joins for opener 'Young Love', and his brother Ben anchors the sessions on drums. It's a rather rare case of hard rock ballads in an 80s style but with satisfyingly modern production, the style's enduring sense of New York-bound glitz and glamourp polished and clarified for your shrink-wrapped pleasure.
