Description

Excellent and Very Rare!! 1963 Reference Disc (Test Pressing) LP by The Gospel Pearls Starring Bessie Griffin. According to Hayes/Laughton's gospel discography, this LP was recorded at "The Bear" in Chicago, circa 1963 and was issued as Liberty Catalog #3310. There were only approximately 5 to 10 of these reference discs that were made. Reference discs/Test Pressings are made for those involved in the project (Artist, Producer, Engineer, and select Label people to hear how the master disc sounds when pressed onto vinyl, and used to review and make corrections and re-record, re-mix or to re-master if necessary before manufacturing for commercial release. (God only knows how few have survived over the last 42 years). I do not have the commercially released LP so I cannot tell you if any of the songs/versions/recordings are any different. I can tell you that it is a fantastic Gospel LP. that has gained a lot of notoriety/desirability over the years. Contemporary Singer/Songwriter Neko Case has named checked The Gospel Pearls Starring Bessie Griffin as a major influence on her music. I hate to part with it but finances deem it necessary. Songs on this fantastic gospel rarity include:

Side 1.

1) Swing Down Sweet Chariot

2) Bye And Bye

3) Lift Him

4) Jericho Walls

5) Lord Don't Move The Mountain

6) Swing Low

Side 2

1) Story Of Job

2) I Shall Not Be Moved

3) Two Little Fishes

4) Lord, In The New Jerusalem

5) I Believe

6) Troubles Of The World.

Titles are typed on label. Conservatively graded at VG+ to VG++, there are a few light scratches on side 2, no deep gouges. Record plays excellent with minimal backkround surface noise in spots. Possibly the best condition copy you'll ever be able to come across of this monster rarity. Naturally since this is a Reference Disc it was never released with a picture cover. Record is housed in a generic white die-cut cover acid free archive jacket. Thank You goes out to Bob Marovich and Friedrich Mühlöcker for their assistance clarifying some questions I had on this rarity vs. the commercial release
