GILA 'Free Electric Rock Session' LP (Germany, Second Battle, Catalogue #SB LP 072) Brand new/unplayed copy of superior and limited Second Battle LP edition (edition of 1000 copies only) of previously unreleased 1972 live in studio session originally broadcast by German WDR radio. This is the same edition of Gila that recorded their debut studio album (a self titled album also sometimes known under the title Free Electric Sound) the year before. Very Pink Floyd inspired sounds (especially the more spaced out and avant free-form explorations of Pink Floyd's Saucerful Of Secrets & More album era. A must-have from the "Kosmiche Musik" realm of the early '70s German rock underground.

'Free Electric Rock Session is a live recording Cologne in 1972 that was broadcast 'live in studio' by a radio station in Germany (WDR). Although this album was never officially released at the time, this should be the second Gila album and even if only played as a radio broadcast, all of the tracks were brand new and are not available on their other two albums. In a similar fashion to the stunning debut album Free Electric Sound, this album pulls out all the underground Krautrock vibes and is a truly great album. Some years ago these recordings found their way on to a CD from Garden Of Delights (Nightworks). As this is not a studio album, the sound is not perfect, but the recordings have been (once again) restored at its best for this vinyl release. Our favourite track is 'The Gila Symphony' which clocks in at around 17 minutes and represents a great extended space-jam similar to the early Floyds. Limited edition of 1000 copies.'

(Notes on Gila's debut studio LP from 1971.) 'Formed in early 1969, out of the Stuttgart political commune, as Gila Fuchs, we can only guess as to what their music was like in these early days, yet they quickly established themselves as the foremost exoponents of psychedelic space-rock. By 1971, with the shortened name Gila, they recorded on of the finest cosmic classics of Pink Floyd inspired space-rock. GILA (sometimes quoted as "FREE ELECTRIC SOUND") is a mainly instrumental trip and feels much like one suite per side. Superbly conceived, it featured an amazingly innovative music that took hints from all the classic Pink Floyd inventions, and went further, blending in ethnic textures with the complex multi-guitars of Conny Veit, and superb percussive fired space drives. Naturally, it's widely regarded as one of the finest Krautrock albums. Gila were an extraordinary band, at the peak of the Krautrock ladder, and it's a shame that the original incarnation only made the one album. Gila had a vast repertoire, and concerts would include jams in excess of 20 minutes, covering a range from weirder Guru Guru realms to the most ethereal Agitation Free kind of trips.' - The Crack In The Cosmic Egg
