Genesis : From Genesis To Revelation 1W / 2W 1st Boxed Decca Press w/ Indicator Hole & Lyric Insert

This first pressing on the blue boxed Decca label plays with stunning quality on both sides.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is so impressive and there are no clicks or pops getting in the way and hardly any static.  This particular pressing was produced in 1970 and it cannot have been played very much based on the audio and the visual quality.  It's a shame it sank without trace when it was first released because in my opinion it does have some very strong melodies and lyrics.  It is certainly better than their last offering if you can compare the two bands!

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only light wear and as it is one of the first boxed pressings it has the mono / stereo indicator hole on the back.  The lyric insert is also the finest I have seen and remains in perfect condition.

This is one of the earliest pressings on the blue boxed label as denoted by the single 'A' stamper on each side.  The lyric insert shows both the mono and stereo catalogue numbers.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a fine glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can see some faint hairlines but there is nothing that stands out.  Under 'normal' lighting it looks pristine!  There is no groove or surface wear and the run out grooves are very clean also.  The Decca labels are near perfect with only a little spindle wear.

Play grading

The piano intro on 'When The Sour Turns To Sweet' has no background and the opening vocal section is incredibly clean with barely any static.  The instrumental bridge is perfect and the next vocal is close to that with only 3/4 seconds of barely audible static, it really is so much in the background.  The mid instrumental again plays with sublime clarity and it continues to play with impeccable quality.  The quiet end vocal for example plays beautifully with just half a second (if that) of static.  I'll say Near Mint for this opening track.

The intro on 'In The Beginning' has no intrusion and Gabriel's first vocal is 'as new'.  This 'level' continues - the high powered vocal section is flawless and Rutherford's bass section soon after is so strong and deep.  To the end it plays with stunning precision - great power and depth and no interference.  The piano end section has only a handful of very quiet statics and Mint- is well deserved.

'Fireside Song' plays with sublime quality from the first note to the last.  There is just one light tick at the halfway point but that is the only intrusion if you can call it that, it is not a click!  However, I will still grade as Near Mint

The bass intro on 'The Serpent' is so strong, clear and deep and the opening vocal is equal to that.  The brief quiet section is perfect and from then onwards it plays with genuine quality.  It is a powerful track and yet there is no distortion and no 'muddiness' to the sound despite being 'bass heavy'.  Sonically it is superb and the quiet instrumental end section plays very clearly with barely any static.  Mint-

'Am I Very Wrong?' keeps up the standard with exceptional clarity and definition from the first note to the last.  There is no interference and Mint- is again an honest appraisal.

The piano intro on 'In The Wilderness' plays so clearly with barely any static and the opening vocal is just as good.  You might expect some inner groove distortion as there are number of powerful sections but I did not detect any.  The sound is perhaps not quite as clean as the previous tracks but that is just me being super critical!  The piano end section has just a minor amount of background static but again it is very quiet.  Near Mint-

The intro on 'The Conqueror' has just one minor static tick and barely any static.  As soon as the volume increases the playback is stunning.  It carries on in the same way with zero intrusion so here I will grade the intro as Near Mint- and the remainder as Mint - the quiet end vocal towards the end has not even a single static.

'In Hiding' plays with stunning precision through every section.  There is no background of any kind and Mint is 100% deserved.

The gentle acoustic intro on 'One Day' plays so clearly with only a couple of minor statics and the opening vocal is perfect.  The chorus is equal to that and it continues to play with a clarity and definition that is second to none.  A few quiet passages and yet they all play as if the record was only pressed yesterday!  Mint-

The first part of the intro on 'Window' plays perfectly and the second has only a couple of light statics.  The opening vocal has a couple of barely audible statics and thereafter cannot be faulted.  Once again the clarity and depth is of the highest calibre even during the quieter sections.  Mint-

'In Limbo' impresses on every level.  This is a powerful number and the clarity, definition and resonance of the audio is phenomenal.  In essence it could not play any better and Mint is again deserved.

The classic 'Silent Sun' is so close to perfect with just one very quiet static prior to the second verse.  Otherwise it plays with clinical precision.  The sonic quality is stunning.  A superb Mint- version.

'A Place To Call My Own' ends the album with very clean audio.  The vast majority is of course very quiet and yet the clarity is very impressive, there is only the lightest of background static for a couple of brief sections and the 'louder' closing section plays with supreme quality.  A Near Mint- conclusion to this severely underrated album. 

The Cover, Lyric Insert & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear.  They are so often found in poor shape but not this one!  The edges are perfect and the thin spine has only a couple of tiny marks and a couple of minor compressions.  The corners have very little wear and the opening edge is close to perfect with hardly any handling wear.  The laminated front cover has just a little 'lift' and 3/4 small edge crease next to the spine and some small laminate creases near the right edge plus one small 'bubble'.  The back cover is in superb condition when you consider it isn't laminated.  It has only minimal ringwear and a handful of minor 'specks'.  The mono / stereo indicator hole is in perfect condition.  A fine example overall.

The lyric insert is pristine with no marking or creasing, never seen better.  The poly-lined inner (dated 10-71) has no side splits and just has some creasing and some of the usual glue residue showing through the edges.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
