Stunning Audio Archive!

Another from my personal collection. 1st issue 1st UK pressing 1956 of Gene Vincent's Debut lp 'Blue Jean Bop' I probably don't have to tell you this is very rare to find! Please note this is listed for its rarety rather than for its condition. I decided to list this for its outstanding audio quality which for me the audio quality has always been my primary objective for collecting vinyl over the past 45 years or more. The vinyl was play tested and recorded at loud volume on a top system importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge. The audio is stunning clear and vibrant without distortion. There is isolated light static tick heard here and there only but no loud nasty constant clicks or pops. I would grade the audio at least excellent to excellent plus in my opinion. The original fully laminated 1st issue UK flipback cover has some storage wear in the form of light creasing/yellowing at the edges and small tears at the opening edge and spine. In general still in nice condition for its age in my opinion. Full description below.

Listen to the complete album in the player below. Actual recording from the vinyl.

Blue Jean Bop is Gene Vincent's Debut album, cut in June 1956, was a rushed affair which is obvious from the haphazard song selection but manages to be one of the most exciting LPs to come out of the early rock & roll era, rivaling Elvis Presley's first two albums, which date from the same period.

Its virtues, which is to say, the virtues of Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps as high energy rock & rollers, transcend the lack of quality songs on the album -- the title hit is joined by some rocked up standards ("Lazy River," "Peg O' My Heart," and "Ain't She Sweet," which the Beatles picked up in their early repertory by way of Vincent, and made their first vocal recording five years later), a country ballad ("Wedding Bells") or two, and some hastily written rave-ups ("Jumps, Giggles and Shouts," etc.), little of it high-grade rock & roll material in and of itself.

Vincent and his band didn't need first-rate songs to produce great rock & roll -- they rise to the occasion here, throwing the hard rocking numbers into the air like the musical equivalent of jitterbug dancing, or stretching out elegantly on the handful of ballads, and the result is one of the few truly virtuoso rock & roll albums of the era.

What sets Bluejean Bop apart from Elvis' albums, in particular, and most other white rock & roll of the period, is that it has the tight sound of an actual working band, where Elvis' (and most other white rock & rollers') albums, in particular, almost inevitably featured session players whose presence helped make for an idealized recording, but not a good representation of how they sounded on stage -- which is what rock & roll was really about.

Vincent and company, by contrast, were playing shows virtually every night during the period of these sessions. The sessions themselves were done in a hurry, without any help from studio musicians; and they were conducted with minimal input from producer Ken Nelson, who pretty much let the band do what came naturally.

The result is a lean, tight sound, akin to a live recording -- which this practically was -- in terms of minimal retakes, lots of spontaneity, and no overdubbing.

Bluejean Bop was reissued in 1998 by Collectables Records, paired off with Vincent's next album, Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps, on the same CD, as Bluejean Bop/Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps.

The Vinyl
This vinyl is the original thicker and heavier type for robust than later reissues with deeper grooves. This is free of any warping. On initial inspection of the playing surface looks superb and lays perfectly flat on the turntable. In strong light I can see some surface marks/scratches, Importantly  nothing too deep that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops during the audio.! Any other marks that there could possibly be would be light whispy sleeve removal only.

 The Audio Quality
I have played this vinyl four  times prior to listing, at very loud volume on a top system, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge.,  This vinyl plays through cristal clear and very vibrant without any signs of distortion! The audio is absolutely beautiful, crystal clear and very vibrant with that deep bassey feel , only found like this on these earliest originals! I heard (no) constant loud clicks or pops and amazingly no real surface or background static during the audio and importantly no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed at all! There are Certainly no skips or jumps! Even in between tracks this is lovely, quite unbelievable to find like this after all these years!

I heard the odd isolated light click hear and there and some light static ticks in isolated places only but nothing that spoilt the overall awesome audio experience in my opinion.  I would grade the audio at least excellent to excellent plus for the most part in my opinion!

hear for your self in the player above, actual recording from the vinyl!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that i sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated static/ticks/light click but nothing consistent  through out the audio! This is a genuine (not) reissue vinyl that is 58 years old and would have been played on a system that is 58 years old!

Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 45 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality. Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.

The Labels
This is the original turquoise Capitol Records labels!  spidering can be seen angled to the light but there is little if no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round. This features the R.T. tax code very rare to find this early   ''MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN''.! (UK PRESS ONLY)!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original Emitex ,poly lined record sleeve (Correct for this pressing) Becoming fragile at the edges light creasing/staining with age only.  Nice and bright condition.  Please note, THIS IS THE ORIGINAL! The vinyl is always stored separately from the vinyl for protection. This is how I always store my records.

The Cover
The original   1st UK PRESS  Fully laminated flipback cover. This cover in  nature is very flimsy and is very difficult to find in good condition especially after 58 years. There is some yellowing with age near the edges to mention. A small tear at the opening edge on the front and rear also a small tear at the spine (See photos) some small creases at the edges at the spine and some slight rubbing wear at the spine. Vinyl impression noticed in the laminate when angled to the light. All flip backs are secure and text is legible.

Probably one of the most sought after early Rock'n Roll albums to have and own. Overall a great playable, highly collectable copy.
