For sale is an original demo copy (Simco 30,000) of one of the most in-demand northern soul records of all time, Gene Toons - What more do you want (from my life). Musically, a masterpiece in every way. A truly superb vocalist clearly very talented but sadly overlooked by mainstream success. Couple this awesome voice with one of the most haunting and complex orchestral arrangements of all the great Northern Soul 'biggies' and you have this gem.
The opportunity to own this type of single is increasingly becoming a once-in-a-lifetime experience as their rarity increases and they pass into the hands of a younger generation of DJs or long-term investors, so assuming. as we might have done in the past, that we'll 'pick it up next time' is more and more dangerous as the years pass.
Northern Soul records have proved an excellent investment, producing a significant return over the past decade. Great; but in the end for those of us who 'get it' it's not about money, it's about the majesty and sheer genius of these rare, beautiful things and their continued attraction some 40 - 50 years after they were committed to vinyl.
The blue boot crops up from time to time, this white label original rarely. Not much more to say about this except that the reserve is set at a reason able sum but not over the top, but expect to dig deep.
