Description

Released by Barking Pumpkin in 1985, this is a box set of the first five Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention records. Freak Out (1965, 2-LP release), Absolutely Free (1966), We're Only In It For the Money (1967), Lumpy Gravy (1967), and Cruising with Ruben & the Jets (1968).  The bonus LP in the set is previously unreleased material which they named the Mystery Disc, making this box set a total of 7 LP records. The original master tapes were returned to Zappa after 20 years in the MGM vaults, and these tapes were then remastered in the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen in 1984 by Bob Stone and Mark Pinske. This was a limited edition set and mine is stamped on the back with serial # ZM1-02061. Everything that came with the set is intact - the color booklet with the original liner notes and notes for the reissue, and any other inserts that were in the LP jackets, all perfect condition.

I purchased this set directly from Barking Pumpkin around 1986 or so.  I recall only playing 2 or 3 of the records once or twice; the remainder were never played.  A year or two later i switched to digital, sold my turntable,  and basically gave up playing vinyl since then.  So this set along with my whole collection has been kept safely in the closet unplayed for 20 years.  I just looked over the contents and basically the albums are like new.  It still smells new like the day i bought it, and i even heard the pleasant crackling sound of a crisp new jacket as i opened it to look.  I am not an expert on album condition ratings, but i would imagine that the vinyl would be considered Mint or Near Mint, and the jackets would be Near Mint. The box that all the albums are in is still in the original cellophane wrapper.  The end where the box slides out of course is open, and this area is really the only place where i see a small amount of wear.  The edges of the four corners of the open end of the box where the cellophane was opened has a little bit of wear.  This is just wear on the shiny silver surface of the box, and there is absolutely no damage or cracks or scratches anywhere.  If anyone would like to see close up pictures of these areas or any other things, please email me and i will provide it.

Shipping is via FedEx Ground for domestic and DHL express for international.  The shipping charge will be the actual cost, i do not inflate the price.  For domestic it will range from about $15 on the west coast to about $25 on the east coast. International will be more.  All sales are final, there are no returns.  I am not a professional record collector and have no intention of misrepresenting the condition of this set. Therefore i encourage everyone who considers themselves to be experts on records to ask all questions prior to bidding.  I have written what i consider to be an accurate description, but will be happy to elaborate on any details.  Buyer to make contact with seller within 24 hours and make payment within 3 days.
