Trade Mark Of Quality (abbreviated TMOQ or TMQ) was a bootleg record label based in Los Angeles, California, during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The label was responsible for many underground records of Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, Devo, Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, The Rolling Stones, The Who and many other rock artists of the era.
Trade Mark of Quality was established in 1970 by "Dub" Taylor and Ken Douglas. They were quality-conscious perfectionists who pressed all their albums on coloured, virgin vinyl, and possibly the first bootleggers to start producing printed picture covers, and later colour picture covers, rather than paper inserts. All TMOQ albums initially had blank generic jackets with rubber stamped title, TMOQ stickers in silver, gold and various other colours with records pressed on black or coloured vinyl when available. Most, but not all albums, had a back insert.
I purchased this Frank Zappa bootleg LP in 1973 and it was the 59th LP in the TMOQ series:

This March 3, 1970 bootleg recording, was Frank Zappa’s first live performance of the 1969 Hot Rats band at The Olympic auditorium in Los Angeles, CA featuring Don “Sugarcane” Harris on violin, Ian Underwood on Saxophone, and Ansley Dunbar on drums from that album. (Although this historic performance does not include a performance of the entire LP, I recently saw Dweezil Zappa’s band performing the entire Hot Rats LP and it was fantastic!)
