Baron Elmo Enterprises proudly presents a stunning vinyl document of the sludgy, throbbing art-damage assault of San Francisco punk legends FLIPPER: Public Flipper Limited Live 1980-1985, a double lp released in 1986 by Subterranean Records, now out of print. These two records capture the oozing mayhem of the live Flipper experience in vivid, brutal color. As the first group of the American postpunk scene to seriously utilize slow, pounding tempos topped by a thick, choking haze of guitar grind and feedback, these guys had punks everywhere convinced that they were either utter geniuses or complete idiots. Actually, they were both, though mostly the former… and their music is some of the most exhiliarating thud ‘n’ yowl ever belched from the gut of the rock beast, a bracing musical tonic to tide us over in those brain-dead days when the likes of REO Speedwagon and Lionel Ritchie ruled the airwaves. A Village Voice reviewer once described Flipper as “the noisiest thing with a good beat I’ve ever heard.” And this being a live recording, you get plenty of the group’s um, snappy stage patter along with the music. (Their requests for free beer are a listening delight.) In addition to many of the group’s most renowned songs, these lps feature NINE tracks that never appeared on any of their other albums or singles. And the records are nicely packed in a foldout sleeve that converts into a hilarious "Flipper on Tour” game, including a sheet of game cards (still intact) that you cut apart to play. All you need is the beer. This is one thunderthud funfest of an album that has NEVER been released on compact disc… and the lp itself has been out of print for at least a decade. Both records and the cover show slight wear, but look fine and play beautifully.
