FIRST CHOICE – LOVE THANG / GREAT EXPECTATIONS (1979)

Gold Mind Records / Salsoul | GG 502 | Original U.S. 12" Vinyl | 33⅓ RPM

Original 1979 American Gold Mind Records 12-inch featuring "Love Thang" by the celebrated Philadelphia female vocal group First Choice, backed with "Great Expectations."

A landmark release from the golden age of disco, this single captures the sophisticated combination of Philadelphia soul, powerful female vocals, orchestral arrangements, and extended dance-floor production that helped define the sound of late-1970s New York club culture.

First Choice, featuring the distinctive lead vocals of Rochelle Fleming, was among the important vocal groups associated with the Philadelphia soul and disco movement. Their recordings for Gold Mind and Salsoul subsequently became staples of underground dance culture and influenced generations of house and electronic dance music producers.

LOVE THANG – TEE SCOTT REMIX

Side A features the extended 8:04 version of "Love Thang," remixed by influential New York DJ Tee Scott.

Scott's remix develops the song's infectious rhythms, lush instrumentation, and expressive vocals into an extended dance-floor arrangement that became an enduring disco classic.

The recording was written by Melvin Steals, Mervin Steals, and McKinley Jackson, who also contributed to its arrangement and production.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS – TOM MOULTON MIX

Side B features "Great Expectations," presented as a Tom Moulton mix.

Moulton was among the pioneering figures responsible for developing the extended disco mix and popularizing the 12-inch dance single. His approach to remixing helped transform the structure and presentation of dance recordings throughout the 1970s.

Together, these two sides present the work of two influential figures from disco's formative mixing and remixing culture.

ORIGINAL GOLD MIND PRESSING

This original American pressing features the distinctive black Gold Mind Records center labels with multicolored horizontal stripes and the label's ornate gold emblem.

The record carries catalog number GG 502, corresponding to its original 1979 release.

The runout areas contain original manufacturing and mastering inscriptions, including GG 502 B, an additional K-series number appearing as K-10824, and a hand-etched marking reading GOL.

These details are useful for documenting and identifying this particular copy of the release.
