Description

Alice Babs sings Findus Frozen Foods – advertising jingles laminated card record sent to UK Grocery Retailers, c1960.

This is a scarce example of a laminated card Flexi Disc that was pressed by Rainbow Records sometime around 1960 or so. The ‘label’ simply reads Findus – 45 rpm Wonderful Frozen Foods sung by Alice Babs. Embossed into the plastic record are the words Rainbow Records Findus 14461.

The back of the card shows various Findus Frozen Foods products – perhaps the whole range? – and lists the various sizes they are available in. No prices are stated. When the record is played, we hear a very well spoken English man telling us that we are about to hear Swedish star Alice Babs singing three different variations of Wonderful Frozen Foods, the advertising jingle that will feature on Television in both 30 second and 15 second versions. The record and is in VG+ condition. (I cannot see any scratches – and certainly not any creases, which are the main worry with these types of records but it does have some crackle when played – which again is typical with a record like this). I am fairly sure that this would have been in some sort of promotional pack sent by Findus to a Grocery retailer, as part of a large advertising campaign, and there would have been paperwork that explained the campaign and how the Grocer should order in loads of Findus products to meet the anticipated demand. The jingles sound typical of the day and this is a wonderful curiosity that will go well in various types of collection.

It is impossible to be an expert in all realms of collecting, and I am honestly representing this item to the best of my knowledge and ability. If the item has a fault then I have mentioned it. I ask that you read the description and examine the photos carefully. I also encourage you to ask any questions you may have during the auction to help clarify identification or condition, as I may inadvertently omit information that you as a collector feel is important.                                                                                                           My email address is oldvan.ebay@btinternet.com

I am not able to provide scans of paper items and I have no facility to record / copy any records.

CONDITION.  The majority of items that I list are between forty and sixty years old.   Some are older and some may be a few years younger.  I have described the condition of the item in my text but where applicable I have also ticked the 'used' box as even where an item is 'perfect', it is very old and logic says it must have been handled and probably used at some time over the decades!

ALL of my AUCTION ITEMS are now listed with basic / second class postage FREE in the UK.

They are not actually free to post of course! I have to pay to post them but for UK bidders the price you see at the end of the auction is the total price you pay.

DELIVERY TIMES.  Although I have ticked the Royal Mail 2nd Class Standard option, please note that this service is reliable and often is unexpectedly fast.  Many people in the UK receive their items within 36-48 hours of payment being received.

I have also listed other faster options for UK postage (Recorded Delivery + Special Delivery) and also various options for overseas buyers that are stated when you click on the P&P Tab.

TRACKING NUMBER.    If an item sells for more than £35, (or for a package that has a total value of more than £35) it will need to be sent with a Tracking Number - the Royal Mail's International Signed For service.  This costs an additional £4.90 and that price will be added so that both you - the Buyer - and myself are covered under the buyer protection policy.

PACKAGING.    Please note that all of my items are well-packed in thick card or in boxes, and then wrapped in good quality brown paper.   I do not make any separate charge for packaging materials - everything is included in the final price. Many of my feedback comments mention my good packaging and I will of course continue to meet my own standards.

USA BIDDERS PLEASE READ THIS

Since November last year eBay have periodically put up announcements about potential delays with items being mailed to the USA.  So has the Royal Mail.    The Royal Mail website currently has a notice that reads

USA
Start date: 18th November 2010
End date: Ongoing

Update 7th March 2011:  (This was the last time the Royal Mail updated their website.)

Further to the recent increased security measures for items carried on passenger airlines to the USA, Royal Mail has continued to work with relevant airlines and deploy a range of contingency measures and routes to get as much mail to the States as quickly as possible.

We are pleased to confirm that the vast majority of items have now reverted back to being flown to the USA, with only a small amount of mail having to be diverted to alternative routes, including sea containers.

This - potentially - is a bit of a nightmare.   I know that some sellers have started to block bidders from the USA as some items are taking ages and buyers are naturally enough becoming worried and are opening 'Item Not Received' cases against the sellers.     My own experience is this.        Since late November I have mailed around 400 items to the USA.   Nine of my items were delayed. As of the last week of February all have now arrived and I am not aware of any other delays.  It has been many weeks since I became aware of any fresh delay.    So hopefully the chance of any such delay is now tiny.

I send all my items by Air Mail, and always within two working days - usually the same day - after receiving payment.      They are well wrapped and the few that have been delayed have always arrived in perfect condition.  I do not want to block USA bidders. Buyers of my items tend to be enthusiasts who are looking for a specific item and tend to be understanding if there is any problem.  If you look at my feedback you will see that I do my job to the best of my ability and have many thousands of happy customers.  I just want buyers to be aware that there is a small chance that there could be a delay that is beyond my control and which is down to the increased security measures brought in after the terrorist alert in November, and to take this into accout before bidding.
