FUCHSIA - THEIR UNIQUE ORIGINAL ALBUM - PEGASUS - PEG 8 - 1970. Condition is "Used". Dispatched with Royal Mail "Signed For" Service.

FUCHSIA -  Their especial and highly unique amalgam of rock and classical instrumentation.   
The Record is graded between Excellent (EX) and Very Good (VG) condition, with no scratches upon the album faces. It plays perfectly.  The "Pegasus"  logo is unmarked. 
The Cover is graded Good (G) It has some ageing wear around its edges with minor creasing and surface ring wear upon its faces as shown (Reflecting its age of 50 years) but is is not scratched and is fully legible. The cover surfaces have the original textured feel and were not designed to be laminated. The inner sleeve is very good and original. It is valued by RCM at £400 (M) and £320 (EX) I have seen it on offer for over £500. 
Owned from new, I remember purchasing this record in the winter of 1971 whilst visiting Norwich, Norfolk. 
The album was recorded in early summer of 1971 at Sound Tehniques Studios, Chelsea, London. and produced by David Hitchcock.
It was released in November of that year, on the short lived "PEGASUS" label, an off shoot of B&C records.  The labels total output was 14 albums due to a legal challenge from Readers Digest who owned the trademark to the name "Pegasus" winged horse logo, although this design changed from PEG 11 onward.
Fuchsia were :- Tony Durant (Guitar),  Michael Day (Bass),  Michael Gregory (Drums), Madeleine Bland (Cello) Janet Rogers (Violin) and Vanessa Hall Smith  (Viola and Violin) 
The music within the album is an amazing amalgam of rock essentials, Guitar, Bass, Drums,  entwined with the classical instrumentation of Cello, Volin and Viola, with the musicians playing the unique compositions of Tony Durant and Robert Chudley that were totaly special and magical.  Other bands experimented with the combination of group and orchestra (Deep Purple) and incorporated violins  (PEMT, Flock, Its a Beautiful Day) but not to the originality of the songs and music on this record. 
Following  this release, and in addition to recording three other tracks with this line up, regrettably the band dissolved, with individuals pursuing their own studies and musical directions.
The additional tracks, together with newer compositions with different musicians, would surface on the Fuchsia album "Mahogonny and other Gems"  released in 2005. 
In 2013 Tony Durant released Fuchsia 2 - "From Psychedelia to a Distant Place" Comprising of new musicians :- Tony Durant (Guitars), Emily Duffill (Cello), Tracy Wan (Violin), Lidia Bara (Violin), Jo Bara (Cello) and Lloyd Gyi (Drums and Percussion), together with Suzy Toomey (Accordian), and Isabel Durant (Backing Vocals).  
Vanessa Hall Smith became a practicing Barrister, then a director for the British Institute of Florence (2004-2011) She was awarded an MBE in 2008, for promoting UK Culture in Italy. 
Fuchsia's music was totaly unique and original. It came from a period where progressive music was seemingly limitless in its creativity with other bands like EGG tapping into the vast library of classical music and forming their own interpretations. Building a cult following, Fuchsia's album was bootlegged then given an official re-release by Tony Durant.  Like a good book it is always special  to have the First Edition. 
Some observations on Grading :- Mint (M) The Record is in brand new condition, no surface marks, no sound quality deteration. Records designated sealed or un-played qualify as mint.  Excellent (EX) The Record shows some signs of being played, but with minimal lessening of sound quality. The Cover &/or packaging may show slight wear &/or creasing.  Very Good (VG) The Record has obviously been played many times, but manifests no sound quality deterioraton. Despite noticeable surface marks &/or light scratching.  Visible wear & tear on the Cover or additional items, without major defects, is acceptable.  Good (G) The Record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, pehaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The Cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.  Fair (F) The Record is still just playable, but has not been cared for propery and displays considerable  surface noise; it may even jump. The Cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
