STOP! Before you read any further, please add me to your favourite sellers – otherwise you’ll never know when I’m about to sell the other records in my massive collection!

As seasoned collectors of my records will know, I don't use somebody else’s grading system (not even it they ARE called Record Collector), because it’s all still subjective; what I call Record Collector Mint, you may not, or vice-versa. So I just give my honest assessment of their condition. If you read my feedback to date, you won’t find any who think I've overstated the condition of my records – in fact, many have thought quite the opposite – that I have been under-enthusiastic in my ratings. I prefer it that way.

A kind of Northern Irish cross between early Genesis and gentle Giant, Fruupp's biggest gig was at the Empire Pool Wembley, London with Hawkwind. And did you know that QUEEN played SUPPORT to Fruupp? Yes – 1974, at the Corn Exchange in Aylesbury, England, and it was no minor gig either. Did you know that Genesis, with Phil Collins now the singer, ended their concert in Columbia Md., 1977 with a version of 'The Irish Washerwoman'?

Absolutely brilliant album, and very popular with the few collectors who manage to find a copy.

The very heavy vinyl is in excellent or better condition – usual light marks and scuffs only really visible under strong halogen, and not much surface noise when playing. The original Dawn labels are unmarked except for the usual few light spindly marks.

The original textured sleeve was never a quality item – bit of a cheapie. However, it’s still very firm round the edges, with a LITTLE corner wear at the lip. There is one 15mm tear near the bottom of the lip. And, like any textured white sleeve, it looks SLIGHTLY grubby now, after 33 years. But it’s in very good nick really.

I’ve been skimming through the Music section of eBay for a couple of years now, before I decided to sell my collection, and I have never seen one which even approaches mine in terms of size and rare content.

I am not any kind of trader. This is my personal collection. I started listening to this kind of music when it came out in the 60’s and 70’s (there’s some later stuff there too), and went on to build up a collection of the kind of stuff I liked over a period of maybe 25 years.

However, as I get older, I have finally realised I haven’t listened to any of it for years now, and it's just taking up space. What was once an almost fanatical obsession has lost its interest, I’m afraid. Now in old age, I listen to The Eels, Radiohead etc on CD. So it's all going to go.

I’ve thought and thought about the best way to do this, and they’re going to have to be sold a few at a time. The order will probably be fairly random! However, I’ve published the full list under “ME” on eBay – if there are particular disks that anyone would particularly like to move to the front of the queue, please send me a message and I’ll try to oblige.

Regarding the condition of the records, many are in pristine condition. A lot of the rare/valuable ones were bought 25, 30 or more years ago, played once to make a cassette, then never played again. My deck is a Rega Planar 3 – originally fitted with a Shure M55E cartridge, and now an Audio Technica. The styli were aligned properly and changed VERY frequently – no lathes here! The deck will be for sale also when the collection's gone.

Like I said, I’m not any kind of dealer, and I know nothing about records (though, as I do this, I’m learning...). These are just the discs I hunted down all over the place, and listened to. More often than not, I taped them and listened to the tapes, to keep the records in good condition. My ears weren’t sensitive enough to tell the difference between disc and cassette. Or maybe it was because I always used to listen to them under the influence…

Because I am very far from being an expert, I can’t use some kind of “official” (whatever that means) grading system. When in doubt, I grade the records as WORSE than I actually think they are. So, if I describe a record as NEAR MINT, that will generally mean that I can't see ANY scratches etc on the record, and it should quite possibly qualify as MINT. However, I know some of you get the microscopes out, so I’m playing safe.

To stop me having to cope with so many sales at once, I will auction the records individually, a few at a time, and attempt to describe each one as honestly as possible. Please don't make ANY assumptions at all – if in any doubt, please ask and I will do my very best to answer. If you don’t ask, and something isn’t how you would like, I can’t be responsible.

Because of the size of the collection, I’m afraid I can’t test-play the records – with the exception of some of the ones which I expect to go for significant sums of money, if I’m in any doubt as to their condition. I’ll do my best to e-mail any kind of specific photo requested though. Some of the records – including many of the rarer ones – are completely unmarked, and have almost certainly only be played once (it's a very long time ago!) to tape them, so the chances of there being audible scratches are vanishingly small.

Sorry but I’ve been messed about before, and will cancel bids unless conditions are met.

Records will not be dispatched until receipt of cleared full payment via Paypal, OR electronic transfer into my bank account – I won’t accept any other kind of payment, deposits etc I’m afraid.

 Some of these titles are almost impossible to obtain in first-class condition now – and some are almost impossible to obtain at all – so this might be the last time you’ll ever see them. Please bid carefully to avoid disappointment.

Terms and Conditions

Many sellers refuse first time buyers: I don’t (so far...) as everybody has to start somewhere, but I require any first timer to advise me of their ability to pay via Paypal or electronic bank transfer, and to communicate promptly, preferably before any bid or soon after the auction ends. If I am confident that your intentions are honourable, I’ll give you good feedback to get you started with eBay.

Please also note that I will now offer any item to the runner-up after 3 days if no contact is made by the winning bidder, unless prior notice of any delay is given beforehand. The same applies if no payment is received within 7 days; so any bidder who has just lost out can still email me to reserve the item as priority second chance.

Please note that I can’t accept returns on anything which sells for less than £10 – with such a big collection, it’s just not practical to administer. However, if you do buy a low-priced item and genuinely feel that I have misled you, do get in touch and we can discuss it.

 Insurance strongly recommended on anything of significant value – although all records will be packed in proper LP packages with stiffeners etc, no responsibility will be accepted for items which are damaged or fail to arrive, if you don’t pay for insurance.

Sorry also I can’t give discounts for multiples – I’m not being mean, but almost always the record mailers I’ve bought don’t take more than one LP without distress. Also, I have no means of weighing records individually, and there can be very big differences between 2 seemingly similar single albums, due to varying weights of vinyl, complexity of sleeve etc. Therefore, at the price quoted, sometimes I lose a few pence – sometimes I gain a few pence. When bidding, please assume that the price per album you will pay is the price including the stated postage. In some circumstances, it may be possible for me to reduce postage, but please assume that the price you see is the price you’ll pay.

Where I’ve said “Almost unmarked” and “Very light noise” etc – often this means that I can see NO marks, and have heard NO noise on giving them a quick few seconds on each track, although owing to the large number of titles in my collection, I haven’t got the time to listen to most of them all the way through. However, I’m sure some of you are very fussy, as I was when I was building up my collection, so I’ve tried to err on the side of caution. Ultimately, the records will probably be BETTER than described.

While I will try to post records the next day, unfortunately there will be occasions when I can’t get to the Post Office until Friday – eg when insurance is needed, posting abroad etc. I know you want your record to arrive the day before you bought it, ad I will try my damnedest to make sure it goes out next day, but please accept my apologies if I fail occasionally.
