Description

FRUMPY – Frumpy 2. Lost Century 71020. UK release. FACTORY SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Originally issued in 1971 on Philips ( Germany). This edition issued in 2014. Pressed on 180g vinyl and comes in a heavy board stock gatefold cover with the original artwork. MEMBERS:  Inga Rumpf, Jean-Jacques Kravetz, Karl-Heinz Schott, Carsten Bohn, and, new to the lineup for this album, Rainer Baumann. TRACKS:  Good Winds, How The Gipsy Was Born, Take Care Of Illusion, and Duty. DESCRIPTION:  Born out of the 60's folk-pop band The City Preachers (that also featured vocalist Dagmar Krause, later of Slapp Happy), and inspired by the burgeoning progressive scene, Germany’s Frumpy was formed in March 1970 with the idea of creating a fusion of rock, blues, classical, folk, and psychedelic. As such, Frumpy was a unique combination. Though they debuted at the 1970 Pop & Blues festival, they were much too progressive and experimental to appeal to pop audiences, Frumpy was much more than that. The classical elements were endowed by French keyboard player Jean-Jacques Kravetz, a most imaginative organist rivaling Keith Emerson, Dave Stewart, or Marián Varga easily, who had worked with Michel Polnareff during the 60's. The blues and folk elements were courtesy of Inga Rumpf's often remarkably unfeminine vocals and her poignantly observant lyrics. After numerous concerts and festival appearances, Frumpy's debut LP was a guaranteed success, and to assure everyone that Frumpy was nothing like The City Preachers an apt title was chosen:  All Will Be Changed. Frumpy's greatest triumph however was this album, Frumpy 2, which saw the addition of former Sphinx Tush guitarist Rainer Baumann. Having just two tracks per side, this was the definitive Frumpy style to savor, there was lots of room for extensive instrumental work, guitar and keyboard duets, with classical and blues diversions, all wrapped up by excellent songs from Inga. It hinted at, and previewed the excellent vastly extended works as found on the posthumously released double live album. Hereafter numerous personnel changes occurred and, though still a very good album, as a result By The Way suffered somewhat. During this period Kravetz went on to work with Udo Lindenberg and also record a solo album, Rainer Baumann also established a solo career, and subsequently Frumpy transmutated into Atlantis.

For your further reading enjoyment and enlightenment I offer the following additional information provided by my supplier on this release:

Limited vinyl reissue of this classic German progressive band’s second album. Frumpy released four albums between 1970–1973 and achieved considerable commercial success—the German press hailed them as the best German rock band of their time and their vocalist Inga Rumpf as the "greatest individual vocal talent" of the contemporary German rock scene. Initially the band played without a guitarist, which was unusual in the rock genre; the band instead made great use of "spacey [Hammond] organ excursions" and a powerful Leslie Rotating Speaker System. "In the beginning we were happy enough as a quartet,” said Rumpf. “I played and composed exclusively on an acoustic guitar. It was only later that we began to write songs that called for a guitar." In 1971, just before the band started recording their second album, called simply 2, they recruited former Sphinx Tush guitarist Rainer Baumann to the line-up. The album, heavier and more mature progressive rock with classical overtones in Kravetz's organ (and occasionally Mellotron) work, repeated the success of the first, and gave the band a hit single with How The Gipsy Was Born, which would become their signature tune. The German music magazine Musikexpress dubbed Frumpy as the best German rock act of the year, while Inga Rumpf, variously described as ‘smoky,’ ‘demonic’ and ‘roaring,’ (I would add ‘seductive’) was declared by national newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung to be the "greatest individual vocal talent" of the German rock scene so far.

If you have any questions or if you have additional information, especially corrections, to the description, please e-mail me. I particularly enjoy when an artist, band member, or someone who has personal background knowledge of a particular album/artist and offers their insight/information of that recording, which I will include with the description for future listings of that release. As a collector of many years, part of the hobby side for me is to learn about the background of the artists and music that I collect. Hopefully, sharing some of this information in my descriptions will help educate and enhance your listening experience.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

All packages are shipped via first class package international service (air); this is the least expensive method of shipping internationally, but does not necessarily meet all the conditions of Paypal’s buyer/seller protection plan. First Class Package International Service does not offer tracking. NOTE:  First Class Package International Service has a 4 lb. weight limit, if your purchase exceeds that weight limit the next cheapest option is Priority Package International Service (usually up to 4 LPs will have a total weight less than 4 lbs.). Though quicker and safer, Priority Package International Service is determined at a higher rate than First Class Package International Service. If security is a major concern then please request Registered Mail, available upon request and at your expense, this is the least expensive method of providing extra security for your package and it allows the US post office to internally track your package should it become lost (I have yet to have a package lost via this method); actual postal charge for registration is $13.95 in addition to the shipping total (required on all bids/purchases totaling $100 or more; this will be included with the invoiced shipping total). Priority Mail International and Express Priority Mail International are available upon request and at your expense. If you have any special needs of your purchase or you have any questions please e-mail me.

RETURN POLICY:

Please e-mail me with specific details and I will get back to you with your options. I ask that if there is a problem with the item that you contact me as soon as possible after receiving it. Any item that must be returned is done so at the buyer’s expense. Any refund, exchange, or substitution/credit will be at the buyer’s choice, but not made until the original item is received back by me; in the condition as stated in the item description.

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

US Customers:  Please wait at least two weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. All packages are shipped with confirmation/tracking, you will received an automatically generated shipping notice from Ebay e-mail with your tracking number. It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

INTERNATIONAL Customers:  Please wait at least 3 weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. If security is your concern please have your package registered (see above for fee). I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery, though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.

ALL CUSTOMERS:  If there is a problem with your purchase please e-mail me first with details before filing a resolution. I will file a non-payment resolution if payment is not received within 7 days of your purchase unless you contact me with your needs. However if, for any reason, you decide not to follow through with your purchase please avoid a non-payment resolution and initiate a cancellation of the sale; this is not a problem to which I will gladly respond in acceptance.
