Of all moody, minor-key, brooding, existentialist 1960's albums, this one has got to be one of the moodiest and the most melancholy of them all, certainly in terms of its overall texture, structure and form (contents, too). It also happens to be one of Fred Neil's most beloved works and one of the true gems of the psychedelic singers/songwriters era. Done in one bold stroke during the fall of 1967 (the recording sessions also produced some material for his "Other Side of this Life" album), Neil  recorded this gorgeous work just as he was contemplating the direction his music and his life were taking at this point. He apparently believed that he was needlessly being pushed and prodded into commercialism and he decided to take a 180-degree turn. Before he exploded into full-fledged hermeticism and seclusion into self-imposed exile, he managed to record an album that everyone could - and would - love, and relate to. This is the music to drift away by. Music to meditate on the meaning of Cosmos, or - simply - music to watch people go by. A timeless piece of meditative, transcendent, luminous poetry, backed by an incredibly talented and competent, but also unobtrusive and subtle bunch of musicians. The original album, label, sold a meager few thousand copies and promptly disappeared from the stores, never to be seen again for another 40 years. ·                               THE RECORD

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split spine (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters)

-        Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the spine.

-        Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the front panel (a minor cover construction flaws)

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-        The cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here, covering about 25% of the entire surface

-        A visible water stain (VISIBLE ON FRONT SIDE ONLY) affects the area about 1.1/2 square inch in size in one bottom corner;; there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is visible

-        Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged / bent  (nothing significant).

-        Cover has a minor 'bump' (dent) on the opening side  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
