Description
Here's a 1964 US PRESSING of MISSISSIPPI FRED McDOWELL'S debut LP - DELTA BLUES on the ARHOOLIE LABEL CAT#F1021. It is pressed in 1964, the release year. McDowell had lived quite the life before recording his first LP at the age of 60. He had learned from the older masters of the delta blues, and had been playing for most of his life without much fanfare. That's when Alan Lomax found him, and asked to record him. This began the trajectory that would lead to the recording of this LP, and then others. The blues may be considered an art form to us now, but to guys like McDowell it was a way of life. They never dreamed of recording or being important. But, after Muddy Waters played Newport Jazz in the late 50s, there became a huge interest in the genre, and gave artists like Fred an opportunity to record, make money, and play. Fred was one of the great guitarists, and his records are treasures.
This copy is fantastic. The VINYL looks and plays NEAR MINT, and sounds amazing. It's a gem.
The COVER is in great condition VG+ It has a great shine to it. The back cover is crispy white. There's paper crackling to the spine, and a little shelf wear on top and bottom seams.
