I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Here's a great record from 1970. It's an amazing copy of WEASLES RIPPED MY FLESH, The last LP released under the moniker of FRANK ZAPPA AND THE MOTHERS... It would be only months until FRANK would release his first LP under his name alone, FRANK ZAPPA HOT RATS, also from '70. In fact, this LP is a last licks ofTHE MOTHERS work from 67-69 that FRANK assembled for this LP. It's a tour de force LP, showcasing the incredible musical talents of that band, and their place in an avant world. They were a band that seamlessly mixed avant garden craziness with powerful songs. So few were attempting anything like this at the time, yet it was a time of freedom, and free expression. Yet, there was little to no mainstream market for works like this. The fact that ZAPPA could release LPs like this on a Warner Brothers label is remarkable in itself.
It is an LP that features some of the best musicians that Zappa worked with. Notably Lowell George, who Zappa anointed "little feat" because of his small feet... as well as Sugarcane Harris on Violin, who would also go on to a great career.
This LP is in incredibly in great condition. There are 2 very small corner rubs on the lower left and right corners. These are minor, but worth a mention. The front cover shows a very small amount of record rub, otherwise great. The back cover is great, and the spine and seams are great, given the age, no significant issues, but maybe a.small rub or 2... The LP plays and looks MINT. It is a perfect playing copy. The BLUE BIZARRE LABLES are perfect, with no issues or signs of spindle wear. This is of course the ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING. It sounds awesome, and is a great ZAPPA LP. It comes with THE ORIGINAL INNER, which in great condition, with small folds where they usually are with inners.
This is a keeper of a copy. Let's face it, Zappa LPs didn't sell well, but were incredible. Finding these in such great shape close to 50 years after release is a great find. I am a big Zappa aficionado, and I grab great Zappa LPs all the time, even though I own them all, and then some. He was a treasure of an artist, who was able to march to the beat of his own drum. He was making music that both amused him, and that challenged him. He wasn't making music to sell records or get rich. These LPs are works of art that I hope someone will be turned onto as I was in the mid 70's when Zappa became the most important musical influence in my life.
I love original original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me.
