Description

I am parting with some of my treasured LPs.  Here's a great record from 1979. IT'S JUST ONE OF HIS BEST LP'S----- It's an amazing copy of STUDIO TAN, one of the last 3 LPs released under his Warner Brothers Contract.  When Zappa left Verve label, which was essentially a Jazz label, he signed a contract with Warner Brothers in 1969.  Over the years, Frank liked that contract less and less, and he tried a number of times to get out of it, but they had contracted for something like 50 LP's from him, a number that was ridiculous, but that he was bound to.  So, in 1979 in order to get out of it, he released the last 3 records he was obligated to fulfill that contract.  He wanted them top have NO COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL so WB would not profit from them.  The 3 LPs were SLEEP DIRT, STUDIO TAN, AND ORCHESTRAL FAVORITES.  He also went on the radio as they were being released, and begged the audience to just record the songs, so the LPs wouldn't sell.  That later came out as the set called LATHER.  The good news is that the non commercial music is some of his best recorded material, and those 3 LPs are treasures.  The other thing that resulted from his departure from WB, was that he had to release his band.  That was one of the most difficult things he ever had to do, and signaled a new shift in his music starting in 1980 with the Joe's Garage LPs.  STUDIO TAN is amazing.  Side 1 is the epic story of GREGGERY PECKARY and side 2 is unbelievable music including LEMME TAKE YOU TO THE BEACH.   This is one of my all time favorite LP's, and one that I frequently give away to turn people on to Zappa
The vinyl is in incredibly in great condition.  There are couple bends to the cover that are small but there. some small corner rubs and bends  These are minor, but worth a mention.  The seams show some rubbing, and the spine is torn st the bottom for an inch, and there are a couple other hits to it. The LP  plays and looks MINT.  It is a perfect playing copy.  The LABLES are perfect, with no issues or signs of spindle wear.  This is of course the ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING.  It sounds awesome, and is a great ZAPPA LP.  It comes with THE ORIGINAL INNER, which is white, and in great condition.
This is a keeper of a copy.  Let's face it, Zappa LPs didn't sell well, but were incredible.  Finding these in such great shape close to 40 years after release is a great find.  I am a big Zappa aficionado, and I grab great Zappa LPs all the time, even though I own them all, and then some.  He was a treasure of an artist, who was able to march to the beat of his own drum.  He was making music that both amused him, and that challenged him.  He wasn't making music to sell records or get rich.  These LPs are works of art that I hope someone will be turned onto as I was in the mid 70's when Zappa became the most important musical influence in my life.

I love original original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me.
